Post your pre-race carb loading plan

I’m looking to experiment with a pre-race carb load. I have never done this before. I’m looking for 8-10g of carbohydrate per kg.

Please post your meal plan if you do or have done this.

I used to do a more structured carb load where I try to hit a specific level, but after trying it enough times, I’ve settle on a pretty simple strategy:

  • Get up as early makes sense to do my opener workout
  • Eat whatever makes me happy and what my body “wants” the day before a race until I feel satisfied

It takes away the stress of trying to hit a specific number, and I can have some of the types of food that I usually avoid while putting me in a good mood.

10 g carbs/kg – 70% from potatoes, 30% from bread. I simply snack throughout the day. I have no problem hitting this goal.

Additionally eggs 3 times a day.

I’m on a low fibre diet for 3 days pre-race. I usually eat heaps of veggies. Really heaps. Avoiding them for a couple of days “clears all the fibre from you” and leads to quite some short term weight reduction without affecting performance (Team Sky tip: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/fuelling-the-cycling-revolution-9781472936943/ )
