Official World Wide Disaster 2020 Thread!

Coming off recovery week into Disaster is absolute magic. Sadly, my plan doesn’t work out that way this year!

Disaster is too much for me at this point, but I’d love to test myself.
What could be deemed as the hardest/one of the hardest sweet spot workout?

There was a plan? :grin::grin:

Easy, ride as long as you can at SS

Otherwise, from memory I’d say Polar Bear +1, but I don’t have the TR library at hand.

If you want, in the workout search you could filter by SS intensity and order by highest TSS. You’ll probably find workouts that aren’t purely Sweet Spot though.

I’ve scheduled D-2 in for the 12th as well as a replacement for Hunter. It’ll be during the first week of SSB2, so hopefully it doesn’t affect the following week!

I plan on starting at 6 a.m. Central time here in the US: RSVP - TrainerRoad

Not sure about hardest, but here is a filtered list for SS, over 2.5 hours and sorted with highest TSS at the top:

-1 on 12/12 7am CET

I haven’t done structured workouts in months. It’ll be fun!

Can we get an outside version?

I might be willing to hop in and make it in Training Peaks, since we don’t have a native TR one and can’t use custom workouts for outside versions either.

I have done a few small workouts, and suspect it wouldn’t be to hard to do. Just take a bit of time.

I put the disaster workout in my schedule for december 12. Last year I thought is was hard but doable, but then my ftp was al lot lower. I wonder if I feel the same this year :sunglasses:

In for the Full Disaster on December 12. It will be my second 2020 ride on this rollercoaster!!

I’m not a Disaster guy this year - I got the ‘I don’t give a 5h!t’ attitude bad right now, HOWEVER, I am going to join in on the fun with Excelsior (that may change) and offer words of encouragement. I planned on Bandeira (I did it in the spring at a reduced intensity) but even that seems too daunting.

Is everyone meeting up on Discord again and does anyone know the thread name?

I struggle to get this right every year, but here is what I hope a link to the right channel:

Well I guess I´ve done my disaster today
EVERESTING Basecamp 334 vs Disaster 264

More time and higher TSS on this vEveresting basecamp. The disaster on the side is just for comparison.

I think that invite link is expired. Can you generate a new one?

I wasn’t able to join disaster last year as it would have been right after a week of riding at Tenerife and I was completely cooked. No such problems this year and I just got my trainer set up nicely at a new apartment. So maybe this is the year…

Told you I’d screw it up :P. I always forget they are set to expire by default. Hopefully got it right now.

Today was the day for me. Disaster -2, and my longest trainer ride to date. I knew going in to this one I was going to cap the second 10 min threshold interval otherwise I would fall apart early on, otherwise everything else seemed mostly doable. I barely got through that second threshold interval and the last 30 seconds of the third vo2 interval was murder. Happy to be done with this one and ready to take it easy the rest of the day!

Discord is still active as ever and we have a good group going. As to how to share the channel name…no idea. Will find out how and share the link!

Edit: never mind! Chad has linked it above!

Awesome job! I think you win the prize for first Disaster Week ride done!:clap::clap:

Disaster done.

Was a lot tougher than last year, as my FTP is about 15W higher than a year ago. I had to take breaks even on the VO2 efforts, and I decided to skip most of the sprints of the fireworks.

Even though I had to take those breaks, I’m pleased how this went. There has been quite big changes compared to last year (relatively big bump on FTP, new trainer (last year KICKR Snap and now KICKR, which makes it tougher) and so on).

But I’m also glad it’s done for this year now.
