Did they answer one of your questions in a recent episode? Mr tootles or something like that?
I didnât know TR ever had an MTB specific podcast, bummer they stopped it! Are the old ones still out there somewhere? What was it called, maybe I can search it down.
- For clarity, it wasnât a âTrainerRoadâ podcast. It was lead by Jon, and he used the TR studio for some of it. So it was âkinda sharedâ, but not officially TR.
to bad he ended it. As mentioned, mot much out there MTB podcast specific
Well, AFAIK⌠the cast is re-invented and hosted by Worldwide Cyclery now.
With @Jonathan at the helm, the MTB podcast was really amazing, especially if you were into MTB tech. Not being sponsored by any bike parts companies allowed them to really break down what they liked and didnât like and why. There were also a ton of practical tips. One of the best was when they discussed automotive ceramic sealants and using it on bikes. I started doing this on all my brand new frames and its been amazing.
Maybe one day @Jonathan will bring something back. He has done some live Insta stuff but really miss the MTB podcast.
Yup, itâs been back for a while now hosted by the founder of WWC and a couple other employees. Itâs an enjoyable listen from some experienced people but can definitely derail and get a bit opinionated at times. Not as polished or technical as the previous iteration but still enjoyable and worth it if you want to listen to some people chat MTB.
I thought it was sponsored by YetiâŚwasnât her riding a Yeti back then?
Another MTB podcast, somewhat lighter, not much race talk besides the odd endurace race, they do answer listener questions. You can listen to historic episodes on Mountain Bike Radio.
I was pretty sure it wasnât sponsored, but now you have me wondering if the switch to Specialized had anything to do with the change. He had some GORGEOUS Yetiâs.
Right, I donât think the cast was sponsored in any way, IIRC. As I said, he mentioned TR but mainly for the fact they loaned access to the casting gear⌠so maybe that is a distant way to consider them sponsored, but not in the same way as the AACC or others.
From his comments about all the bikes he tested (there were LOTS of them), the swap from Yeti to Spesh was all about getting on âthe best bikeâ. He loved the Yeti tribe and all that, so I think it is relatively straight forward he picked the gear he felt was best for his needs. He simply felt the Epic was the right horse for him. At least, that is what I remember from his comments way back when that all took place.
That pretty much sums it up.
Donât want to speak for @Jonathan but he had indicated that he was a brand ambassador for Yeti at the time, but this was unrelated to any sponsorship of the podcast. When he did the LT100 he rode in a Yeti kit and used his SB115. While a very capable and well rounded bike, when he shifted his focus to XC Nationals he wanted to get a true modern super light XC race bike. He tested a bunch and ultimately fell in love with the Epic. It was pretty funny at the time because he had been pretty anti-Brain, but changed his mind after having spent time on it. The running joke was that he was going to switch to Schwalbe tires next⌠(which he never did).
@Jonathan is a very thoughtful individual and I think thatâs why the MTB Podcast resonated so well with listeners. He pays attention to the little details that we all care about.
