I’ve been away from TR for a minute. Created a new plan Monday which is a masters plan to get faster for group rides. It had me so a SS ride yesterday and I’ve another ride scheduled tomorrow. I have time and energy to do an extra workout today. It’s recommending an easy endurance ride, or as an alternative, an attacking workout at a seemingly insane 9.6. or an anaerobic at 8.6. I’ve never even done an attacking workout before. Pretty sure my anaerobic level is 4 or below.
That workout would pretty much be an instant failure, am I right? Why would it recommend it?
Depending on how long you’ve been away from TR, there have been a couple of changes that make this behavior seem okay to me.
First, we no longer use Workout Levels to prescribe workouts. It’s all based on your recent power curve and fatigue levels, among many other things. This is a much better way to get you the best workout as it’s more specific to your abilities.
Second, a while back, we made some changes to the workout recommender, and before what I mentioned above was ever in place, that made it normal to see bigger jumps in Workout Levels at times. The biggest surprise to many was that they saw high-level VO2 / Anaerobic workouts that looked really daunting.
I’d say that 99% of the time, though, athletes reported back that, while it was tough, they were able to complete the workout.
For these reasons, I’d say, don’t be afraid of taking on the workouts we recommend. If at any point you tackle one that seemed off, let us know so that we can take a look.
Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions!
