Hi team.
Lately I’ve been trusting AI and letting it update my plan with suggestions. It’s worked pretty well lately and it’s been a long time since I failed a workout. Then yesterday, AI suggested to replace my 3.1 Anaerobic workout with an 8.3. I didn’t really look at it before and just accepted the suggestion. Needless to say, I failed it. So my question is, why did it do that? I’m only at a 3.7 in my progression levels for anaerobic. And I tagged my last workout as moderate, which was a VO2 workout. And my last anaerobic workout was a 3.7, which I rated hard. Was this a glitch?
I’m guessing it was an AI hallucination. They will have to look behind the scenes to figure it out.
Bump
There was a similar post yesterday, in which @QuinnsQuads did complete the workout
Hey there,
While workouts may appear easier or harder at first glance, they’re part of significant under-the-hood improvements to TrainerRoad designed to make you faster. They’re related to the similar post that @ivegotabike linked above.
We appreciate your feedback – I’ll pass it along to the rest of the TR team!
I had a workout show up that looked like instant death. I was sure I was going to die, it looked that nasty, but I was intrigued ‘Will it kill me’. Half way through I thought my life flashed before my eyes and it seemed really short. I kept it up, and it didn’t kill me after all. After a recovery day, I came back even better. It does help to push yourself on occasion, but not consistently. It’s been a mess lately and training has been hit and miss, mainly miss, but looking forward to getting back on RSN…
OK, I guess AI thought I was feeling great. I was just surprised by the big jump. I also wasn’t on my top form with a bad night sleep. So if I was more prepared I might have made it to the end. At least you could have a look and see if it was an anomaly or not. Thanks for the response.
Sometimes, the system can make suggestions that don’t quite line up with your current level. It’s definitely not a glitch, but more like an overzealous recommendation. Maybe you could tweak your settings or adjust your progression levels to better reflect your experience.
that is a zone where people have massive variability in terms of what they can accomplish. The so called left side of the power curve is much more unique on a per person basis, for example a sprinter can have much more surface area under the curve in the 0 - 1m range than a normal person, but looking at the right hand side both generally progress to a flatline with time, the curve is predictable on the right and highly unpredictable on the left. Wouldn’t surprise me to see the AI getting tripped up in this zone, possibly from some other rides you did that it had access to.
The other thing here is - potentially - are you doing your anaerobic workouts on erg mode?
If so, stop.
Why? A statement like that is totally useless unless you can explain what you base your opinion on.
I have done all my indoor training the last 7 years in erg mode with no issues, so I’m rather curious what you think I’m missing out on?
I’m having the exact same issue. I’ve followed General Base Low Volume 1-3 and haven’t missed a workout. FTP has increased from 195 at the beginning of the plans to 219 this morning when I was supposed to start General Build Low Volume. I noticed when I opened the app before my ride, most of the upcoming workouts in the new training plan had pending adaptions. The new versions looked waaaay harder than the original workouts it had on my calendar. So I skipped the adaptions (I usually don’t skip them). I don’t remember what today’s adapted workout was, but the original was a 30/30 workout (Grassy Ridge -1), which I did, and it was easy. I even did the intervals 20 watts higher than the workout had them. After the workout AI FTP suggested my new FTP to be 226, which I accepted. Then some of the workouts wanted to adapt again. I accepted this time. But my next workout is Latrigg (Anaerobic 8.7). My current VO2 progression level is 4.3 and my Anaerobic is 1.0. I click the workout and it isn’t even a stretch workout, it says not recommended.
Guessing I’m just going to manually find a different one. I’m not going to set myself up for failure with that hard of a workout when I haven’t even come close to doing the power or durations that is has.
Hey there,
I wanted to reaffirm that these changes should be expected now as they’re part of big under-the-hood imporvmenets we’re making to TR designed to make you even faster. They’re part of the changes that have been discussed earlier in this thread and also in another thread here on the forum that was linked above.
If the workout in your original plan was easy and you overshot the target by 20 watts, that’s exactly why we’ve made these changes! We’re in the process of reworking the labels that say “Not Recommended” on those sessions. We’d recommend trying out the workouts that come up in your next round of pending adaptations – they may appear challenging, but they should be doable and appropriate for your current fitness.
Just to update, I did the prescribed workout (Latrigg) this morning and completed it! It definitely deserved the very hard rating that I gave it, but I made it though without ducking out of an interval early or lowering the target power. Sorry I ever doubted you TR Team!!
Amazing!
Nice work!!
