Inside Ride Kickr E-Flex Trainer Motion System

Looks nice. Those guys know quality build details.

Does anyone know the ETA for these being available? They’re sold out online, and I’ve emailed Inside Ride several times with no response.

I believe my wait was 6 weeks or so from the time I sent the email until the time I received an invitation to order. Once ordered it shipped and was received within 7-10 days.

thanks!

Last night was first real workout - Sleeping Beauty:

Unlocked and mounted the bike as if I were outside. Absolutely no issues with falling over, its like riding a bike

At first I fought a little with handlebars, it feels a little odd but 30 minutes later it wasn’t an issue. The ā€œlearning curveā€ is pretty short, its kinda like riding a bike but kinda not. But better than fixed position.

Hit the first intervals and immediately noticed my pedal stroke was sloppy and wasting energy - a lot of rocking forwards and backwards. Put some attention into pedal stroke and that made it better. Didn’t ride long enough to test ā€œcomfortā€ but am very happy buying E-Flex for nothing more than the awareness of pedaling economy. I’ve never ridden rollers but this seems to be the happy medium between fixed trainers and rollers. :+1:

Saaaaweeet!!! Glad you had such a positive first experience.

I think Inside Ride has a real winner with this design and especially at the price in the current environment. If they push this out to include the Kickr Core, they will cover a large swath of the market. Some more tweaking (mainly adding height) and the can catch a Neo too.

Enjoy the added motion and let us know if you find more comfort in the longer rides too. Happy e-flexing!

How did you modify to work with a 15mm front axle? Was it a special order?

Special order. Had been discussing the 15mm front axle compatibility with Larry, since around the time it was announced a couple months ago.

Did my first ride today on the E-Flex. I’ve long had issues with pain and discomfort while on the trainer. No such issues outside. Various saddles, riser blocks, shorts, etc. later, I’ve still not found anything to ride over 90 minutes. So, the E-Flex wasn’t a miracle cure. But what I think it does that is key is make riding out of the saddle more natural. I always felt like getting out of the saddle on a trainer put some weird stresses on my knees. No such issue on the E-Flex which allowed me to get out of the saddle more often thereby making the ride much more comfortable and much closer to outside. I’ll take that.

Yeah! Core user standing by waiting for that news.

Same here + hoping on shipments to Europe.

Would be great if it would be ready for next winter, also easier to justify the costs :stuck_out_tongue:

Last night I did a 90 minute aerobic endurance ride, a flat 60% of FTP for 90 minutes. That was my second ride on the E-Flex. And I’m with you, while there is a minor increase in comfort, its not where I see the true value of E-Flex. As you said it does make riding out of the saddle more natural - last night I tried that every 15 minutes :+1: and previously I found that move was very very difficult with just Kickr+Bike. Perhaps with enough ā€˜rise and reset rear end’ motions I’ll change my opinion on comfort. And of course, still loving the immediate feedback when my pedaling gets sloppy. Overall I’m really really happy with this addition to the pain cave.

Ok so here is my review after a week or two… But first I’ll bore you with why I gave it a try. Have owned the Kickr 2017 and a TrainerRoad user for two years now. Read over at @dcrainmaker site it is hard to get away from the fact that while on the trainer I’m, err, on a trainer. True that. Early on tried Zwift and it does nothing for me, would rather spin and catch up on work related YouTube videos. Never been able to sprint on the trainer. A year ago did a 4-week block of traditional base (mid vol) and the 2-3 hour rides literally left me butt-hurt, partially solved that by stopping for a minute and standing up (once every 45 minutes). I’m lucky enough to live somewhere you can ride all year long, although morning rides this time of year can hover at freezing (some ice on the road) or be like this morning at a mild 50F / 10C. But a demanding job can make it difficult to squeeze in an outside ride when the days get short, and thats why I bought the trainer.

enter Inside Ride E-Flex. Almost two weeks in and it still feels like new bike day. About a 30 minute learning curve. Pulled off two respectable max-effort sprints a couple of days ago. Doesn’t totally solve the rear-end issue, butt helps. Gives me feedback on lazy/sloppy pedal stroke. And just like outside sitting upright hands free requires balance and core strength. Same with mounting the bike, I ā€˜unlocked’ front-end once and have left it unlocked. Completely different league versus the cheap hack of putting air pillows under the legs of the Kickr (I haven’t tried a real rocker plate). Oh, and thankfully it reduced the Kickr foot print which was one reason I kept stalling on building a rocker plate. Absolutely love it. Recommended. Best bike upgrade since buying carbon wheels and the trainer.

Right on. Glad the gamble has worked out so well for you. I sure like the build quality and price.

I’m tempted to grab one for testing and comparison to the other rockers I’ve made and used.

Do it.

I’m sure I’m not the only one here who would be very interested in your impressions.

I have a basement remodeling set for early Jan. If I get that done, I will have a training room double my current space. Planning to do more testing, and I will likely pull the trigger on the E-flex.

Wanted to echo the good thoughts about the E-Flex. I’ve logged about 6 hours of TR and Zwift since setting up the system and it has brightened my hopes for a productive winter. Prior to the E-Flex, saddle discomfort and mild knee pain dogged my enthusiasm for indoor workouts but the subtle give of the system seems to have reduced both dramatically. A great return for the money spent IMHO.

Have you changed the KICKR height setting to account for the way you raised front end?

If you setup the Kickr/Eflex as documented in the Eflex instructions, which says to put the kickr in the MTB 24" position, the bike doesnt sit level (the front end is too low).

I did the same thing as chindogu, placed a 3/4" board under the fork stand.

There is one lower position on the kickr that may also get the bike level (the RD 24" setting), but I didnt want to try it for fear of throwing off the balance of the EFlex.

Hmm, not seeing that here. Just pulled out a tape measure:

and both front and back axles (mid point) are roughly 13.875 inches off the ground. Will take a closer look later.
