Inside Ride Kickr E-Flex Trainer Motion System

I got my e-flex last night. Here is video showing it setup, with a few hints/tips and showing the one gripe I have (which is minor), regarding thru-axles.

I have only done a 30 minute test ride and it felt great.

Might be worth buying a headless or moveable/removable lever thru axle to use here:

Those are some examples. You need to get the right length and threading, but it could make it much easier to install and remove the bike.

I also just got my e-flex and have done 2 90 minute workouts. Much more comfortable. I am surprised at how much more concentration is needed to maintain balance especially when taking my hands off the handlebars. I had gotten spoiled with the rigidness of my old setup. I have to use my hips more which I guess is like riding outside. I would recommend the e-flex for comfort by itself with balance practice as a bonus.

Thanks for your detailed comments. I’ve ordered an E-Flex but it will be used in a carpeted room with just a Wahoo mat underneath. Do you think a semi-cushy pad and carpet will make the E-Flex unstable? Of course, I can cut a piece of plywood to go under the Wahoo mat, which I hope would solve any problem.

I use my E-Flex with a thin cushioned mat on top of carpet and don’t have issues.

I see the E-Flex is currently sold out. Any idea if these are trickling out or they’re doing batch runs? Waiting list perhaps?

I got mine by emailing InsideRide and getting on the waitlist. They then sent me a hidden ordering link, even though the website said the E-Flex was sold out.

So if you want one, it’s worth it to email InsideRide directly to get on the waitlist.

Perfect, thanks @AlphaDogCycling!

I have wood floors in my home. I place carpet pad under a Wahoo mat and don’t feel any instability from it. It has not been my experience that you will need the plywood.

I have had my E-Flex since late September and am working through TB High Volume so I have a lot of hours of seated work on the E-Flex. I continue to be very impressed with this product and can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone (everyone) with a KICKR.

Any news on this getting developed to other trainers?

mine arrives tomorrow, looking forward to seeing how my butt feels on the long rides in my current training block.

So, you got a resolution to the 15mm axle issue?

Can anyone comment on how likely one is to tip over? After watching the DC Rainmaker video I’m a little hesitant. I often sit-up, take my hands off the bars, take a drink, blow my nose, etc.

Unlikely. VERY unlikely IME. I have done TBHV1 and am in my third week of TBHV2 (long hours) all on the E-Flex. I respectfully disagree with Ray about tipover. I believe his comment was made based on appearance, not experience. I can close my eyes, ride with no hands, type, text all while riding the E-Flex. I have had NO problems with tipover, but evangelize the E-Flex to any cyclist with a KICKR. I absolutely love mine.

Two clear instances of the system tipping in his video. The first was deliberate and meant to demonstrate his general observation. The second was accidental and served to reinforce his point. He certainly based his comments on experience and not simple appearance.

I’d need more time to pinpoint the instances, but they are in here:

Tipping is a possibility if you do not pay attention. My first ride I had to grab the shelf next to my bike a few times when I was doing the things you asked about (sit up, take my hands off the bars. take a drink, blow my nose, ect.) I got better my second ride and each subsequent ride. If my hands are off the bars for any amount of time I pay close attention and use my hips to keep the bike steady and still occasionally hold on to the shelf. I would not let this hold you back from purchasing one.

My point being that this is more of a first ride impression from Ray. If you spend some time and ā€œlearnā€ a product, you develop healthy habits to accommodate its unique needs. I found the learning curve to be very quick and minor. I’d bet that if this was a daily use platform for Ray and he did a longer term review that he would agree that it was just a matter of getting used to the E-Flex.

Arrived yesterday and I woke up this morning to setup:

Instructions were pretty straightforward. Cleaned up stuff while I was assembling and it took about an hour:

And then I remembered my conversation with Larry, and he warned me the front thru-axle handle wouldn’t clear. I was suppose to buy a Robert Axle spare without a handle, duh! I’ve got a spare front 15x100 axle with a broken handle, going to cut the handle off and hopefully give it a first ride today! Already ordered the Robert Axle spare and guess its time to pack a 6mm Allen wrench in my seat bag!
