My AI FTP detection schedule was originally aligned with my training calendar and would typically occur at the end of a recovery week.
Due to the timing of an upcoming race, my training plan has inserted a shorter block of only two weeks instead of the usual three. However, my AI FTP detection timing hasn’t changed, so the next detection is now scheduled to occur in the middle of a training block rather than after recovery.
I’m wondering whether that’s optimal or recommended.
If FTP is effectively changing all the time in response to fitness and fatigue, wouldn’t it make more sense for detection to occur at the end of a recovery week when fatigue is lower and fitness is more fully expressed?
Is there any evidence or guidance on whether the timing of AI FTP detection within a training cycle affects the result?
And if timing does matter, are there any ways to adjust when AI FTP detection occurs?
Hello, if you want to change to detection day just don’t hit the AIFTP detection tab until the day that you want it to fall.
Example if you want to switch it back to the end of your recovery week, then wait to the end of your next recovery before to hit the Detection tab.
This then starts the next 28 day cycle.
What @Kendogz161 suggested is really the only way to manipulate FTP timing, but I don’t see any benefit to going that route.
I understand that it’s nice to try to keep the rhythm of training and FTP detections aligned, but I’m not sure how sustainable that is, and when there is an update available for your FTP, I’d just accept it.
I’m in the same situation as @andrewsprague99 - if i accept the detection tomorrow, with specialty not triggering any detection, i’ll be keeping the same ftp for 8 weeks as the next iteration would fall week 1 of specialty.
Keep in mind that with how TR works, your FTP can be a few watts off without any real downsides, so assuming you’re not getting a massive double-digit FTP increase, your training will remain productive.
decided to just roll with the punches and accept the change. In the grand scheme of things it won’t change much and i’ll take the ego boost that comes with it
Isn’t there still the option to score high in any training zone to override the regular schedule and trigger a detection? If your FTP did rise significantly (making an update necessary), it should be relatively easy to reach and complete a lvl8+ workout and go this route
