Delay AI FTP Change by 1-2 days?

I tried searching and didn’t quite come across this before, so apologies if it has been addressed somewhere else and I didn’t see it.

I was onboarded to the beta/AI FTP platform on the 2nd to last day of my 3 week block (at the end of a threshold day). I opened the app and everything was different, it prompted me to accept my new FTP, which I did. Everything is great and so far I’ve really liked the refreshed platform and the changes in workouts are noticeably harder but in a motivating way.

My issue is that now the AI FTP prediction/change is always set to occur on the 2nd to last day of my 3 week block, starting with my last key workout/threshold session of the block. I don’t have a great reason that this needs to change other than I like everything to “line up” and it would be great if I could delay the AI FTP prediction/change to occur at the conclusion of my block. Is it possible to change this date or delay it?

Thanks, all!

I’m in the same position. I think what we can do is, rather than accept the new FTP Detection when it’s due, wait a couple of days instead.

I think that will cause the next window to begin (amd end) when we want it to.

I also think this will achieve what you’re looking for. :+1:

I have also been wondering about this. My AIFTP updates are exactly in the middle of my block so I would have to wait much longer to accept the change (2 weeks) in order for it to line up with the beginning or end of a block. I’m sure there are arguments for placing an FTP updated at a specific point in the training block. Could a coach at TR offer some insight into the ideal time to accept FTP changes?

I personally always recommend just accepting them when they’re available. Since your levels will adjust after accepting a new FTP, your training will continue to progress smoothly. There’s not much point in waiting, in my opinion, unless you’re in a specialty phase, but we’ve already factored that into AI FTP logic. :+1:

I just had my first intensity ride after an ftp change.

RPE wise, it’s exactly where I left off in the previous block. It’s a slightly different feel since it’s more watts but at lower time in zone. But no noticable difficulty discontinuity.

Adaptive training claimed to do this, but never really worked for me. I always dreaded a new training block.

The ftp change was in the middle of the endurence week, but there was minimal changes to the actual wattages before and after.

I’d second the “don’t worry about the detection date” advice.

I’m about to experiment with this! My club has a winter competition, for which I need an up-to-date FTP at the end of Feb, but my only-every-28-days FTP update cycle on TrainerRoad is off by a few weeks. (That is: I’m due for an update Thursday the 5th, but if I do that, I can’t have an up-to-date FTP on the 28th when I need it for the competition results).

I’m currently at 151, so the predicted 158 is a big jump. (I made January the month where I did every last thing TR assigned me, nothing more, nothing less, and looks like my FTP went up 4.6%).

I think it will just adjust all the workouts for Feb upward in Athlete Levels after I decline the new FTP. I’ve taken screenshots of what the future workouts in the simulation window are, just to see what it thinks I should be doing in those weeks, watt-wise. Part of the issue is that I seem to be up against the top limit of “endurance”—after a huge block, for my first recovery for workout yesterday I got dealt James (and it was easy). so I might have to just look at all the watts and try to replicate, if the system doesn’t adjust to my decline.

So: watch this space!
