How do I best incorporate a week long overseas Training Block?

In March I am going to calpe in Spain for a week’s group riding. This does not follow any particular training structure but typically involves 3-4 hour rides with some significant climbs which we tend to attack. I think TSS was about 1,200 last year. I’ve put the calendar for last year’s event below…

How do I tell AI that I am going to do this and how do I optimise my time there?

Why not try putting it in to plan builder as a multi-day stage race and see what happens?

You could set it up as an A, B or C event and see how the plan changes.

ETA: if just tried this out. I set the training camp up as my A event and 3 months later a road race as a B event and it gave me Base - Build - Specialty - 1 Week Taper - Training Camp - Recovery Week - Build - Specialty - Mini Taper - Road Race :+1:

In my experience there is no good way. For some reason TR hasn’t seen the need to incorporate planning for a training camp as a feature. As Helvellyn says you can treat it as a stage race, other alternatives are putting in an anotation or just ignore your plan for the period you are there (and some days before and after where you should reduce your volume).

My solution the last years has been to tinker with my plan until the training camp(s) at least somewhat fits in to my plan. That means at leat a rest week at one of the ends, and then switching out the workout in the other end as needed.

I think @Helvellyn’s idea can work really well here.

@Norry1, are there any other events that you’re preparing for?

Yep, I have a season of Masters Road and Crit races coming up, starting early April. I don’t want to prepare for the week away, I want to use it to help me be fitter for the subsequent racing.

I think you can do both, though.

Training camps like these can come as a real shock to the system if you aren’t at least somewhat prepared for them.

In those cases, it’s really easy to oversaturate your body with training stress, which doesn’t actually help you get more fit than saturating just enough.

If you want to get the most out of a big trip like that, I’d build your training towards it now, and then re-focus on the rest of your season afterward.
