Just finishing up a century plan and planning for fall winter. I was planning on working on FTP but see there is a hill climbing plan as well in TR. Can anyone give some insight on how they differ? They seem very similar.
Cheers

Hey @SeanTaylor,
This isn’t anything official, but what I’ve picked up on over time..
Increasing FTP
This one focuses on increasing your ability to sustain higher percentages of FTP. It does this with an emphasis on intensities at and around threshold, and by extending your ability to sustain those intensities.
Improving Climbing
This focuses on increasing your ability to sustain higher intensities for longer periods of time and to have the strength to attack when the road gets steep during already hard efforts. Compared to increasing FTP, this is going to have you working at threshold and above intensities for a variety of durations to improve your prowess on all types of climbs. I’d say this one is really good for race-specific prep on hilly courses.
If your goal is to simply improve your FTP, then the FTP plan is likely a good option for you.
That’s an awesome overview. Thanks for that! FTP it is! cheers
