Hey folks, I’m an over the hill (almost) recreational cyclist, who has the physique of a climber. So … to play to my strengths, what is the best way to train to improve my climbing skills. Is there a TR training plan for climbing? Or do I just train to improve FTP? Thanks.
Hi, yes:
Also, if you enter your age as 50 or over it will automatically select the “masters” version of your plan with more time for recovery. This can be changed by the user, of course.
Hmmm… I’ve only just set up TR… can’t remember what goal I chose
. Is there a way to check and amend if needed?
If you create a new plan, it gives the option to delete the old one.
Also, your current plan is displayed at the top of your calendar view (at least in the mobile app).
IMO,
Typical group ride climbimg…. > “Climbing Road Race”
Long alpine climbs “40 TT plan”
or keep it simple and use plan builder as suggested above.

You can always choose to edit a plan, see what options you chose, and then change any you want. At that point, going forward, the plan will adjust to your changes.
Hello again!
What types of climbs do you normally tackle?
The Improve Climbing and Raise FTP plans are both solid. Raising your FTP will, of course, help you climb better, but if you’re attacking a climb in a certain way, the climbing plan might be more tailored to your needs.
If you ever want to check on or edit your plan, simply click on the title of your plan in the top left corner of your Calendar page on the web. The details will be shown on the right-hand side, as shown below. At the bottom right, there is an Edit Plan button for when you need to make changes.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. ![]()
Thanks… bit of a mix really… I do a 65 mile very hilly route, but also have 10 minute and 15 minute kom routes that I like to test myself on. Oh and short sharp climbs in the middle of crit races…
If I had to choose one I’d say the 15 min KOM route.
When you edit a plan can you change the goal from FTP to climbing?
put a book under your front wheel when you’re riding indoors to simulate the effect of gradient on position.
