It will be better than not doing strength training but he definitely falls in the category of “cyclist out of his area of expertise” imo. Or I guess I should say, his area of expertise is calisthenics, not the sort of heavy lifting that the “strength training –> faster” studies use. The rare pic I see of him with a barbell is loaded with very little weight, odd for a dude who is marketing a strength problem. His IG is filled with exotic KB stuff and calisthenics. Which is better than not doing anything and perhaps good for mobility and injury prevention… it’s just far from optimal for strength and hypertrophy, especially when time is limited. I’ve seen some of the actual routines and my biggest critique is that it is really really hard to properly load your lower body with DBs and KBs. Your legs are already used to carrying your weight around and then some.
There’s a learning curve to proper form so you can move heavy weights around safely and train closer to failure. DH kinda sidesteps that issue by staying away from the real heavy stuff. So there’s your trade off. Less strength training stimulus, but also less to worry about. And there’s a type of cyclist that’s going to appeal to.
Here’s my program if you don’t want spend any money. (Fwiw, I was a strength athlete prior to cycling.)
