I understand FTP can drop if workouts are failed or missed, but my FTP was changed today and the new prediction for a month from now is saying I will go Down?! I do have one week of vacation, but if AI thinks I will lose power, shouldn’t it change the plan in some way?? It is frustrating that my rest week was not changed even though i’m taking the next week off.
Drop by how much?
I’d personally take it, enjoy stepping back a bit after vacation, build up the time and duration of intervals and then see where you are. Step back in intensity it not always a step back in the progression. ![]()
its only .5% , but the season is about to start, so its a time i’d like to be making maximal gains, not treading water.
how do i build up time , isnt that up to the the software to decide? my suggested workout duration never seems to change
My understanding (so might be off here) but with a lower FTP the AI will give you workouts that have a higher PL (usually those with longer intervals). But you can always select an alternate and see how it goes. I know it can feel discouraging if FTP prediction goes down, but as hard as it is I’d try to ignore it. You aren’t going backwards… and will still be getting appropriate workouts.
What kind of racing are you doing this season? How long are your races?
The AI just picks workouts and sets FTP. It doesn’t change the structure of your week or when rest weeks occur. You need to make those macro changes.
Are you entering your specialty phase? That is not designed to increase FTP. It’s going to give you race specific training.
You’re taking 25% of the next four weeks off for a vacation, and your FTP is presumably predicted to change by like 2-3 watts (0.5%)
Training three quarters of the time and maintaining fitness feels pretty good from my perspective.
I think you should try to reset expectations from this
and focus more on enjoying your vacation!
If, next year, you want to maximize your gains at this time of year, you should shift your vacation timing to prioritize your fitness. As is, you’ve got a (hopefully) anticipated vacation coming up - forget about the training and enjoy life until you’re back home
Longer gravel is what I’m training for.
I understand if FTP goes down during a block; it’s just strange that before the block even starts, it’s predicting I’ll go down
Ok, good to know,
I’m in build
Worth remembering. If your FTP is standing still you’re actually still progressing, because if you weren’t providing a stimulus your body would shed fitness that it didn’t need.
Also, if you’re in a 3;1 cycle and your vacation is on one of your loading weeks you’re losing 33% of the stimulus, not 25%.
