Really? I wanted to get my wife a flat bar gravel bike (because she wanted a mid-90s MTB). I got my wife a Liv Devote (Giant Revolt) with an AL frame 2x9 Sora (then converted it to flat bar) and it was $1500 this spring That was a pretty decent buy.
I probably could have gone sub-$1k with a road tire bike and lesser gearing. That FX Sport would have made my list if it was out. She needs the lowest possible standover height (mini-person), so the Giant would have probably still one. BTW, riding a 48cm flat bar gravel geo bike when you’re a 58cm guy makes you feels like a circus bear on a tricycle.
I also just bought a Deore AL XC bike, that was just a bit more. “Lower end” athletic-type bikes are 1) $1600 is the new $1000 entry point. 2)Lower end specs components are better than the 2015 $1600 bike.
A friend of mine was looking the other day for fitness bike… So a flat bar bike with decent components…his budget was about 1k…
So I showed him this…
So, it is possible to make a decent bike for around 1k. Trek and many other don’t care. As long as they sell, they will continue to push forward with pricing. And that’s ok, they are a business and they can do what they think is better for the business.
That is a nice bike at a good price with excellent bits allaround. Even in 2015, that would have been well priced.
Only does 32c and had too high of a Standover for my case.
I don’t think either of us are in the market right now.
But I like talking bikes…
Liv added the Alight to their lineup, which exactly what I needed…
… but whatever the Devote looks the business. I wanted it to be easy to store it on the wall (unlike her 50lb(!!!) old bike), so it’s rolling on my carbon 650 gravel wheels, I put a GRX 1x crank on it, and a light MtB bar. I think we’re at 20lb now.
Funny for me, she asked for the seat post lower and it’s bottomed out. She also likes to ride with her hands in the middle, with great effort I put a cross lever on it, which after cutting down the bars she doesn’t use.

I took my British girlfriend back to Australia one September. We went for a run and I got swooped first, told her just to leg it out of the danger zone and i would explain later. She turned around to check why and absolutely shat herself seeing a magpie approach at eye level!

I dont get it. We have Magpie’s in Canada. No issues.
I know you’re Canadian, so it’s probably not in your nature, but this definitely calls for an Australian joke, especially in the memes and jokes thread!
