I understand your point of view although I totally disagree. If TR were to do that I think they should charge subscribers for the show. This is not only a great information and learning podcast for us! It is also a great marketing platform for TR. It helps get their name out, get attention and get more subscribers that allows them to produce more great podcast and video content for us subscribers and the “WORLD”.
Yup, I think it’s an easy bet that the cast has gained them enough new subscribers to more than justify the time and expense of it.
The expansion of the show and growth of the TR team (new employees added as advertised over the years) are also evidence of that success.
I don’t think there is a better way for them to reach and gain new users.
Interesting germane to this discussion, I came upon the TR podcast a while back from reference from a pro triathlete interview on the swimming podcast I listen to. Listened, hooked, and finally subscribed last fall when it fit in. The podcast was definitely the reason I subscribed (and joined the forum here). I’ve learned a ton from both.
Chad, you add so much to this forum! I recommend you get a paid staff position!
Thanks for all you do
Thanks for the props.
I’m happy to pitch in around here. I hope to help make it an easily accessible resource that answers questions and gives direction in this world (that can be very confusing and intimidating to new members).
- Largely aside, but a few months before TR launched their FB site, I was about to start a fan-based version with this basic goal in mind. I was shocked at the time (2 years ago?) that there was no TR group, forum or related resources.
- Happily, TR took the bull by the horns and got the ball rolling on the FB side. As soon as that opened, I jumped on the opportunity and ran with the chance to try and help with all the great info from the podcast, blog, and Help Center.
- As that group grew beyond the practical bounds of the FB environment, I supported the addition of the forum (despite the initial preference in the polls of not adding a forum
). I’ve been a member of various forums over the years and recognized the superiority of use when compared to the mess of FB groups. So I was happy when they pulled the trigger on this forum, because it is such a better platform for use and management. - That is much of the reason I spend so much time here sorting, linking, and sharing info where I feel comfortable. It’s essentially what I wanted from the very beginning when I considered starting my own group so long ago.
You do a great job managing and contributing to this forum. It’s unexpectedly become a spectacular resource for developing my coaching knowledge because there are other coaches here who discuss their thoughts on the latest training ideas, share links, etc. It scratches the itch from the athlete side, but for me even moreso on the coaching continuing education side. USAC should grant CEUs for participation here. ![]()
The level of knowledge on display and shared freely here is inspiring. I marvel at the depth some people take into all of these topics. I am comfortable in a variety of them, but am so impressed with the other topics that I know on a superficial level or less.
That and the level of respect and productive discussion is something I really value here. There are so many truly amazing people around here. Long live the TR forum.
