Can I lock in my own workout type mix and still get TR's progression?

I only race time trials of various lengths, and started using TR plans for it a few years ago. 40k TT plan created a significant dent in my VO2max/anaerobic department which I didn’t like (tt results were rather good, I kinda struggled the following VO2-sprinkled seasons to match previous power/times during my events) and since then I’ve been changing type of events on my calendar to rolling road race, climbing race, crits to make sure TR plan prescribed some VO2 max workouts as well.

Is there an easier way to achieve this? Basically, I’d like to have one VO2 max, one sweet spot, and one threshold workout per week and have TR adjust intensity as the season progresses based on priority of events. Is it possible?

Otherwise I’m toying with the plan mid-way just to have those types of workouts prescribed.

Thanks!

You could use AI workouts to have us pick the right workout of any type for you at a given time..

I do that sometimes when I want a specific type of workout but don’t know which one is best for me at the moment.

You just described my training plan. I’m on XC Marathon, masters, 4 days a week. I get 1x of each VO2, Threshold, Sweetspot, endurance.

Hi @eddie ! I’m using AI workouts / Train Now occasionally but I can’t call it a solution - it just isn’t the same as having a plan. I’d like to visualize what my training looks like, and TR calendar is a great tool designed specifically for it.

Is there a way to set up calendar to always have certain types of workouts and have TR manage progression based on importance of events?

I may try it next season; i’m fine with 3-4 endurance rides a week as long as I also have VO/SS/threshold each week. Does your XC plan change/replace workout types as your main event approaches?

Yeah, it’ll change the subtype for each workout throughout the phases. VO2 is in long suprathreshold right now, and changes to on/off closer to race date this summer. Threshold was doing over unders, is now standard intervals, and changes to hard start threshold closer to race date.

Played around with the plan options a bunch before committing to this setup for the season. Fewer days drops the endurance ride. More days just adds more endurance riding. I have my weekend endurance ride set to dynamic.

Ahh!

I almost forgot.

You can edit the discipline of your scheduled workout on the fly.

Just click on the workout, then the edit pencil, and you’ll see that option as shown below.

This could be a good solution for you if you want a plan in place, but also want to switch up your workouts on the fly.

Let me know if this helps!!
