"TrainerRoad AI adjusted the training zone for your workout to VO2 Max"

I was quite surprised to see this message on my TR calendar yesterday. I’m many months away from a race, in the middle of my base phase, and my rides are all sweet spot at the moment.

I don’t mind it, I was just surprised that a VO2 max workout snuck in like that.

To be fair, I have been downgrading the suggested SS workouts, choosing easier alternatives to try to keep my legs fresher for my run training at the moment.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

I like the fact that the plan is being flexed in this way… when the “AI aspects” were rolled out i was hoping to see more of this - i.e. “you could progress faster if you do xyz”

It’s been up on the forum previously. If I remember correctly the issue is that it’s too big of a gap between your capabilities and your current AIFTP. This results in the AI not having suitable SS workouts for you.

The way you describe it, it seems like the AI have pushed you out of the range without you actually thinking that is reasonable. What level where the latest SS workouts you were prescribed?

Yes that sounds quite possible. The levels coming up are around the mid 3’s and 4’s - that would have been fine on my “old FTP” but in the new world of TR AI my FTP jumped about 20W and a typical sweet spot session is far more demanding now.

I think it would work if I was just doing bike, but I do triathlon and I’m really focusing more on my running this winter. If I did the TR workouts as prescribed I don’t think I’d be able to do the quality run sessions as well as I’d like.

Are you on a triathlon plan? Also, are you syncing all of your other activities to TR?

@eddie yes I’m on the low volume sprint tri plan. Happy for you to take a look. As mentioned, I have been opting for easier workouts than TR usually suggests. I thought it was interesting that it suddenly pulled out a VO2 workout as a way of recalibrating
