Probably TR AI is making TR very hard to use

I think there’s a little problem. TR AI may be takes my road ride watts as a reference and use that data to suggest really intense sweet spot workouts.

Doing a 20-minute climb outside in Ss isn’t like doing three times 20-minute sets of Ss on trainer with only 2 minutes of recovery between them. TR AI finds them difficult workouts, but for me they’re somewhere between very difficult and all out.

I would like to use the software at 100%, i’ d like to connect my phone at trainer and ride but now i’ve to study my workout before and sometimes i must change it because too hard.

It’s the same for you?

Not sure how much you’ve been using TR Stefano, but i think you need to use the new AI a little and let it settle on how you find a few workouts, and then it will have a clearer sense of where you are. I don’t think it says outdoor is the same as indoor sessions, it is just trying to build your fitness to be able to better do what you do outside, hence the different focused training programs.

Have you been doing the AI planned rides and marking them as All Out/Very Hard? If so, has it not been adapting as a result? Can you share your calendar or screenshot the last 4 weeks of rides?

My training year started at the beginning of November.
The goal was to increase my FTP. I’m doing 2 WO of 90 min on trainer and 1 group ride if no rain on Sunday) i did SS and THR workouts until December, and from January I did VO2max and THR.

I always completed all the scheduled workouts except for a week of holidays, but my FTP increased only by 2% every 28 days. This was a typical January week:

OK, VO2max, but THR was always a strange workout with 20-25 minutes of 3-minute intervals and then 3 sets of THR over-under.

Since last year had gone much better, (now i have 10watt less than last year) I wanted to change my goal switching from ftp increase to schedule races in May (like last year). I expected THR and VO2max again, but it started suggesting SS and VO2max.
I changed the 10th of this month from SS WO to TIOGA (copying from last year). Today I did the SS workout suggested but I had electrical problems due to a storm, but I would have hardly finished it without taking at least two breaks of a couple of minutes. If I look at Wednesday, it will be a very tough workout for me. I wonder, does it make sense to do SS or would it be better to focus on THR workouts (like TIOGA-WARLOW-REINSTEIN-TUNEMAH) and Vo2max like past year?

It does look like this has been a hard month with all of the intense workouts rated Very Hard+.

Please excuse this if I’m translating wrong, but do you have the plan approach set to “Demanding”? Assuming you want somewhat easier SS workouts, I wonder what would happen if you changed the SS approach to Balanced or lower? You could change the whole plan approach, but if the VO2 and Endurance rides feel appropriate, it might make sense to go in and change the approach for each individual zone. If that doesn’t work, it does sound like you might want to manually lower your FTP, but I’d reach out to TR Support before I did that to see what they think.

I just took a look at your career, and I’ve noticed a few things.

First, you’re pinning specific threshold workouts to your calendar, which doesn’t allow them to adapt based on your recent performances.. I’d stop pinning those workouts and let TR decide what’s best for you. It looks like the workouts you’re picking are likely just a bit too hard and aren’t as productive as they could be, and are likley driving up your fatigue.

Speaking of fatigue, you haven’t taken a rest week in something like 10 weeks, and you only took that one becuase you were sick.

You’ve got to take rest weeks when they’re scheduled, otherwise you won’t be able to absorb all of the tough training stress and build back stronger and more efficient.

Let the AI guide your training. Try the workouts we’re recommending, and stop picking your own for a while. Also, follow the structure of those rest weeks!

Let me know if this helps. :+1:

No, they’re all in the Goldilocks zone for me for the last eight weeks.

Perhaps you aren’t allowing TR to adapt your workouts. Turn on fatigue management as well, might help guide you more.

Okay, thanks for checking out my page.
I don’t know why, but the workouts this year are totally different from last year, and last year I had a great time.
For example, I did several z4 workouts (seggested by TR AI) like Tunemah, Starlight -2, Vennacher that have lots of low-intensity minutes. My FTP increased just a little during last two months so i decided to do by myself watching past year calendar.
Regarding the recovery week, you’re right, but this year I haven’t been out much due to bad weather, so many weeks I’ve an average of only 4hr/5hr of ride, i tought It was unnecessary.

Anyway I want to understand one thing, does Tr AI use road power records as a reference for roller training?
Because, talking about Sweetspot WO it’s easy for me to maintain 240/250 watts on a climb for 30 minutes, but much less easy to maintain them on rollers and repeat two or three times during 90 min of training.

Now i gonna try again with TR AI and i saw that fortunally gives me two SS workout non very very hard to do. Lets start again

We’ll use any power data that you give us.

As long as you’re filling out the post-ride surveys, we should have a good idea of which workouts to give you. If they’re too hard, we should pick up on that as well.

Let me know how those sweet spot workouts go, and I’ll take another look if needed. :handshake:
