Bug Reports for the new Desktop App

New builds should be out shortly.

Windows: 2019.25.1.44
Mac: 2019.25.1.41

Release notes:

  • Moved the interval summary to the bottom of the workout graph, increased the text size, and added scaling based on window width.
  • Minimal mode interval summary text size has also been increased.
  • Fixed an issue where elevation data was displaying incorrectly for outside rides with no power data.
  • Calendar days should now retain their expected size even if workout images haven’t loaded yet - this should prevent some ā€œjumpinessā€ on initial load and when scrolling.

Let us know how it goes!

For tonight’s ride, I disabled Bluetooth on the laptop and was able to successfully complete the ride.

Well, not exactly ā€œcompleteā€, because my legs are dumb, but … well, there weren’t any visible dropouts :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Figured I’d add a +1 to having this issue when I did my Ramp Test tonight. Workout was visible online right after the workout, but FTP didn’t update in the app or online until I quit and reopened the app. Also, I’m guessing this is related to the issue, but the workout also didn’t associate with the scheduled Ramp Test workout until after everything updated. This is on the Mac Beta version 2019.25.1.41 for reference.

  • Platform: Mac
  • Version: 2019.25.1.41-Beta
  • Devices: Kickr Core, Favero Assioma
  • Connection: ANT+
  • Mode: ERG with PowerMatch

I gave the Mac desktop beta a try tonight and it looks nice! Really liking the keyboard shortcuts in particular. Ended up running into trouble with erg mode & PowerMatch, though.

A few intervals in to Spencer +2 I had to cut my effort short and take a breather, so I switched from erg to standard mode (~32:20) to ride out the rest of the interval at a lower resistance. Then, after the recovery valley started a few minutes later, I turned erg back on (~35:00). The target power was a constant 127W at that point. The trainer brought up the resistance until I was at about 250W, though, and stayed high. After a couple of minutes it was still way off. I ended up going back to standard for most of the remaining time in the workout.

The first time erg cranked the resistance too high is shown here at ~35:00:

Initially I thought the wonky resistance might have been from Zwift, which was also running. I’ve accidentally paired it with my trainer before and had something like this happen. Zwift gives conflicting instructions to the trainer and the resistance is wrong until I tell it to unpair the trainer. I checked, though, and it wasn’t paired with the trainer this time. I closed Zwift just to make sure that wasn’t the issue. Then I gave erg mode a couple more tries around 41:40 and 46:50 just to see if it would do the same thing again, and it did – the resistance went way too high & stayed there.

Out of curiosity, I also tried turning off PowerMatch for one interval. That worked fine. The resistance tracked the target power pretty well. It’s only when PowerMatch was on that the resistance spiked.

Feel free to check out my ride data – it’s the one on Tuesday, Jun 18, 2019 at 7:15 PM.

Thanks for all the hard work on the app!

I reported a similar experience some 6 days ago (scroll up!), after switching from ERG to Resistance I couldn’t then get the trainer back into a stable ERG mode. I also suspected Zwift grabbing the trainer, but also this wasn’t the case. Note that I also have power match on and didn’t try turning that off.

Haven’t tried it since, looks like this is an issue. I’ve heard nothing back from my report other than they were going to look at the workout file. Maybe it’ll be bumped up now in has had ā€œmultipleā€ reports  and more data and experimentation done by you to go on!!

@jiberjaber @Scheherazade @kelseyh Mine uploaded last night pretty immediately .

I think you’re probably right. It might just be taking a while to upload. Do you both know your Internet speeds? I don’t think you need anything blazing fast, but I’m just wondering and trying to gather some information.

I’ll issue this up with your reports. Thanks! (And good job on the Ramp Tests, by the way).

@jstrater @FatherDamo2

Sorry to hear that you guys ran into this one!

From the behavior that you’re describing, it does sound like there’s something going on with PowerMatch when swapping between Erg to Resistance/Standard and back.

At this stage I can’t say what exactly is occurring, but I’ve made a formal issue and an engineer will have a look at some point in the near future.

If we determine that there is an identifiable problem, I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks for your patience until then.

+1 here with the Mac sleep causing the TR beta desktop app to crash problem. It’s a nuisance when trying to do the oft-suggested thing of getting your trainer and workout all set up the night before to be ready to go first thing in the morning. I always took that all the way to loading my workout and entertainment and then just closing the MacBook Pro clamshell for the night.

Sorry I don’t know about the internet speeds but all the other rides are syncing pretty instantaneously; I’ll get off the bike and strava will be telling me the ride is uploaded.

@ming I’m in the same boat. Not sure about internet speeds, but other rides all sync right away suggesting it should be fast enough. I can do a speed check when I get home though.

@Scheherazade @kelseyh If all your other rides other than the Ramp Test are syncing to Strava before you even get off the bike, it’s probably not a speed issue. It’s more likely a Ramp Test-specific bug.

This is issued up and I’m gonna try more test scenarios to reproduce it.

New Betas should be out in about ~10 minutes.

Windows: 2019.25.2.45
Mac: 2019.25.2.42

Nothing too major today, mostly back-end stuff. We added some logging to help us address dropouts.

Release notes:

  • Fixed an issue on Windows where using hotkeys to adjust intensity caused the app to freeze @joshualeak
  • Various back-end bug fixes and improvements

Thanks y’all - happy riding!

Just installed Windows .45 beta and it’s still jumping.

For some reason my .42 beta install wasnt auto updating so have just re-downloaded and re-installed.

Platform: Mac 10.13.6 (MacBook Air, Mid 2011, 4Gb Ram)
TR Version: 2019.25.0.40-Beta

Really like the look of the new version of the app, and I’m looking forward to getting the grid version of the calendar. It works well too, but I have found something that may be a bug.

When scrubbing across the workout to redo a section (or presumably move forward, ā€˜though I haven’t tried that) the confirm and cancel buttons don’t work as expected. It takes a long time to acknowledge that either has been pressed. Each time I’ve tried to use this feature I have actually pressed the button 2-3 times as nothing seems to happen for, perhaps, 20 seconds (I haven’t timed it). I don’t know whether this is anything to do with my ageing computer but it doesn’t have issues with any other aspect of TR or other apps that I use regularly.

Also, as others have mentioned, I’ve also noticed that the app will crash if left open for extended periods – it’s quite obvious as the fans on the computer are audible. I tended to leave the current production version open the vast majority of the time but can’t with the beta.

Final things to mention relate to the interval summary text. When in full-screen mode, Chad’s workout text and the interval summary text seem very close (overlapping?) each other at times. When in minimal view I’d prefer it if the interval summary still flashed up in the main part of the screen. I have my computer about 1.5-2m in front of the bike. Often the TR screen is in the minimal mode so that I can watch Eurosport. I don’t have a hope of reading the interval info overlay on the left part of the screen and I’m happy for it to obscure the view of the video for a couple of seconds. However, I understand that the majority of people might like its new place.

The following seems to help:

  1. Quit Trainerroad (Beta)
  2. Delete the following:
    ~/Library/Application Support/TrainerRoad (Beta)
    ~/Library/Application Support/TrainerRoad/electron-Beta
    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.trainerroad.mac.beta.savedState
  3. Start Trainerroad (Beta). It will preform a fresh install and now all my workouts were loaded.

ok has been working well for me until this week, but nothing major

the workouts are fine, dropouts appearto have stopped, but this week immediately after a workout I had a white screen. Couldnt do anything but shut it down.

And nothing major but my last three rides havent pushed through to Garmin or My fitness pal - do I need to reset these up and if so where is this now??

Windows latest version (updated this morning - twice!)

Agree. I’d like to be able to choose in the app to pair by ANT+ only. i think users now are using multiple connections, zwift, Garmin, TR etc. There is possibly some interference between the different connections. When i switch of BT on my laptop and connect ANT+ I don’t have any issues. Not that i have frequent issues as i don’t. But I like to connect TR by ANT+ on laptop and other items by BT. However, training at 5am in the morning I need my Bluetooth headphones to connect to my laptop for music, Netflix etc so being able to disable Bluetooth in the app would be super useful.

However, feedback on the app is really positive. looks great, works great, can now actually run TR and Netflix at the same time on my old PC. The app is a massive step forward. thank you so much for all your work on this.

Platform: Windows 10
Version: 2019.25.2.45_Beta
Devices: Kickr Snap/Assioma Uno
Connection:ANT+
Mode: ERG/Resistance - Power Match enabled

Wanted to provide further data regarding the issue previously noted where switching from ERG to resistance mode creates instability in power and making this feature unusable. Please note I don’t have any issues switching between ERG and Resistance modes when using the ā€œstable releaseā€ version

  • I have noticed also that the battery level of my PM never changes form 75%, despite fully charging the device
  • It would be great to have some indication onscreen of whether or not I have toggled on/off the workout text when using the keyboard shortcut.
  • Platform: Windows
  • Version: 2019.25.2.45-Beta
  • Devices: v1 Kickr
  • Connection: ANT+
  • Mode: ERG

No instructional text showing on screen whilst riding Shortoff-1 in full screen

I was cheering too early. The above helps just once. When I quit and start the program again all my workouts in the calendar are gone again all dates show ā€œno planned workouts or racesā€ .
