Bug Reports for the new Desktop App

I’m unable to reproduce this on my MacBook but I can give it a try on some older machines. There could be a performance issue with that pathway.

It looks like you’re two versions behind, the most recent Mac Beta is 2019.25.2.42. We’ve made some changes to interval summary in window mode that prevent overlap with instructional text. As for minimal mode, stay tuned. We’ve got some ideas worked up.

What ride did this happen with? I’d like to take a look at your ride logs.

Are your rides uploading to the website from the Beta app? If so, this is probably an issue with the website rather than the new app. Try un-pairing and re-syncing your TrainerRoad account with your Garmin account here: Log In to TrainerRoad

I don’t believe Shortoff or its variations have any instructional text.

Correct. None of the Shortoff workouts includes Instruction Text.

It was either black giant on Tuesday or Crane Track on Sunday I cant remember which.

They have been uploading from Beta to both garmin and My Fitness Pal. - Ill resync everything see if that alters it…

thank you

Platform: Windows 10
Version: n-1 (it updated to the latest version after my workouts)
Devices: Tacx Flux S, Wahoo Tickr, Wahoo Cadence
Connection: ANT+
Mode: ERG

Reporting absence of bugs. First time I was using the beta in full-screen mode (as opposed to minimized). Did Clyde + ramp test, the latest versions seem to be much more tolerant to (numerous) ANT+ cutouts - didn’t see anything on the trainer, but my HR kept dropping off (I suspect a low battery, since cadence is going on fine), I like the way the HR goes “- - -” and the graph line just stops while the sensor is disconnected, and recovers once it comes back on line. I can tell it’s flaky, I get a record of the flakiness, but I don’t get distracted by pop-ups.

Nice UI overall, the transparent end-of-interval summary is classy, nothing bad to report. It would be awesome if we could drag workouts on the calendar to change their scheduling, but the current setup is fine.

I’m not seeing anything odd at ride’s end for both of those. Not surprising though, visual issues are rarely, if ever, logged. I just was curious. I’ve seen a white screen happen on macOS Yosemite before, because that OS doesn’t particularly like Electron (that’s why Yosemite isn’t supported with the new app).

Perhaps there are some elements that aren’t playing nicely with your computer - what OS are you on? Windows (7, 8, 10)/Mac (Mojave, El Cap, etc.)?

its on windows 10…

I also had this problem (not syncing with Garmin Connect) today. Have resynced and will update after my next ride.

Using Windows version - App dropped all data/ride info about 1/3 of the way through Sierra+1 and no way to retrieve it. Ride was completed and all appeared fine but it showed as ride incomplete after I finished. I did earn that 96tss, I promise!

New builds should be out in ~20 minutes.

Windows: 2019.25.3.47
Mac: 2019.25.3.43

Not much of note today, but please do let us know if you run into anything.

Release notes:

  • Added a footer to the custom workouts view, allowing the user to download or open the Workout Creator directly from the TrainerRoad app.
  • Various “under the hood” changes.

Enjoy!

This is more a… ego kind of bug, but really gets me in the feels-- but since I’ve started using the OSX app (used to use the iPad version) the distances of the training rides reported to Strava have been really low. I just did Carpathian Peak +1, NP of 253W over 1hr15m, but Strava is only recording my distance as 12km.

Noticed the same with the ride yesterday Collins +1, 1hr15m == (9.38km) compared to the ramp test the day before (on iPad) which logged as 19km for the 30mins.

Do I have horrific head-wind mode turned on?  :cold_sweat:

Any chance you altered your gearing when on the trainer?
That can severely alter reported speed and distance.

No, same gearing as usual-- big ring about four cogs in. You do give me an idea though, so thanks  – I’m wondering if the non-erg mode resistance value is used by TR for the speed calculation in the export file, even when in erg mode. Just checked the OSX app and it’s defaulted to 0%, whereas my iPad is 10%. I’ll adjust it and see if the numbers look more sane during the next workout on Sat.

WIndows 10

Not sure if it’s a bug or by design:

Non-beta version will pickup pretty quickly after launch that newer version is available. For me the beta versions have been taking a significant amount of time to flag this, if at all; I’m reading in this blog that updates are available but when I open the app I get no alert. If I leave it for 20-30 mins it will eventually give me the green header ‘updates available’. Not helpful if you’re trying to contribute here and get a workout done on the latest release

Wheel circumference in settings?

(this is a long thread, forgive me if this was already reported here)
My only bug so far is that TR will hang and require a force quit if the computer sleeps. Otherwise it looks great and I love the calendar improvements. You guys kick ass, I’m a software developer and appreciate shit that actually works.

MacOS 10.12
TR 2019.25.2.42-Beta
Wahoo Kickr Core
Garmin Ant+ USB dongle on extension, sitting directly under the Waoo

File size is a bit bigger than the old applications so it can take a bit longer depending on internet speeds. The entire file needs to download in the background and then you’ll get the “Update Available” banner.

The Windows build did fail last night, however, so that may be why you didn’t see it. I’m rebuilding it now.

Thanks for the report!

We’re aware of this one and will address it at some point. Unfortunately, I’m not quite sure when that will be. Thanks for your patience until then!

Now that I’ve had to download the beta version a few times I’ve noticed a side issue. Your servers are very slow! Last time time I tried to update (last week) I was getting 50-100KB/s… Couldnt wait that long to do the workout, thankfully I had the standard version installed too.

Today I had to download again, speeds were ~400KB/s, which is much better.

The worst of it is that the download kept failing throughout the download both times.

On a 50mbit fibre connection, and although I’ve not noticed other non-tr related issues, I’m not ruling out a problem at my end.
