Breakfast ideas for pre-race

We had to stop buying Cocoa Krispies as they were too good to keep in the house. Kudos to those of you who have the discipline, I can’t be near those things.

Cocoa Pops might be close to/the same as Cocoa Puffs that have been around for a long time.

I’m pretty sure now that they are the same as Cocoa Krispies….based on the pictures on the packaging at least.

I used to be into overnight oats but lately Ive gone back to what I used to do before I did half ironmans…cinnamon raisin bagel with peanut butter, bannana and honey…so tasty. Then drink a small bottle of flat coca cola.

I put white rice in a bowl, microwave it so it’s blazing hot, then mix in 2 eggs. The hot rice cooks the eggs enough for me. Then I sprinkle a bunch of furikake for flavor and salt. Soy sauce also works.

I sometimes eat this in a car from a sandwich bag (rice is shaped like a log) if I’m driving a few hours to an event.

If I want to eat during rides instead of drinking sugar water, I do the same rice thing but without eggs.

I also use fancy white rice from the Asian grocery store that costs 3x more than regular white rice. I prefer the texture.

The cereal naming by region story is on Wikipedia

What…no link?

Sheesh. Guess I’ll look it up myself.

ETA - yup, they are the same thing.

  • Cocoa Krispies (called Coco Pops in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Italy), a chocolate flavored version (sold worldwide)

overnight oats are delicious. I do myself as well.

For topping, I use whatever fruit I have available, powdered milk and some nuts. :yum:

2 cups of tea with oatmilk first thing
2 cups black coffee
Porridge with banana and honey few hrs before
More coffee
couple boiled eggs, cooked 5 mins 30
small snack / gel before you start
:+1:

Oh this is a genius idea! I’d do both, furikake and soy sauce, as it can be a touch bland (for better or worse).

Maybe I’m too American :joy: but I can’t do rice first thing in the morning. I might have to try it someday but it doesn’t sound good to me. Not trying to be negative but I am surprised how many people mention rice for breakfast.

Same. Has never failed me.

Just done research Mr Kellogg. He was a very odd man.

Haha… could end terribly. But instead of “interesting” types of foods before you race (oof) you could do something fun with a known food. Make shapes with the pancakes. Use a … victorious? bowl for the oatmeal. Play your get pumped music while you eat. Make it fun and special in some way that your gut won’t notice.

Try putting 3 fried eggs and hot sauce on top. That help?

(Seriously, it’s good)

It’s an acquiring taste heheheh

I’m not American either, but I’m living in Canada, and what I thought was a bit weird now is one of my favourite breakfasts: Omelet with maple syrup on top of it. :yum:

Just like a chocolate milkshake only crunchy! That’s the tagline for them here is Au, same for you? I’ve got an A race next weekend and conveniently it’s been school holidays so I bought a box ‘for the kids’. I’ll probably have Vegemite on toast (my normal brekkie) and a bit of Coco-Pops as an extra before the race. Am going to really try to carb load the day before though. Fingers crossed.

Oatmeal with a little peanut butter and maple syrup mixed in. If I want to up the protein I’ll add a little whey protein powder to the mixture. Black coffee to wash it down.
