AI FTP Dropped Me About 3%

@eddie

Hi.
Has this issue been fixed now and is it working normally?
I’m still seeing that the AI FTP calculation results are about 7% lower than before.

AIFTP has dropped my FTP by 1.9% but its probably to be expected as I’ve done a lot more unstructured group rides this summer and enjoyed my self. My previous TR winter training probably put me in good enough shape for the rides so that they were enjoyable.

There seems to be a lot of people affected by this 24th glitch. Perhaps it would make sense for TR to put out some sort of notification to all subscribers about the bug.

@eddie

I did an FTP detection on the 22nd which gave me a ~6% drop. Could you double check this is valid?
I did have a few weeks off the bike so it could be real.

@pkmoy607 yep, it looks like that was a bug, and the support team has already gotten things sorted out for you. :slightly_smiling_face:

@philan, that August 24th detection was a bug. I’ve gotten everything fixed for you, though!

@Yukonranger @holybinch, the same goes for you.

@AdamJ, it looks like that August 22nd detection was a bug, but you do still have a valid FTP Detection that you haven’t accepted, which I think is spot on for you. I’d recommend going with that figure.

@jkyle I told you!! :grin:

@sungjun.bhang, everything is working properly. Your current FTP looks spot on to me. :+1:

@HLaB, you know yourself well! It looks like all of your recent FTP detections were accurate.

@pirnie, yep! Your most recent detection looks spot on as well. I’m sure you’ll bounce back once things with training are back on track! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, @eddie - can you take a look at mine? I have a ticket with Vanesa (who’s been great), but I’d love to get a better sense of when I’ll have a more accurate aiFTP. TR’s FTP put me at an IF .98 for a four-hour gravel race, so that feels a touch off.

Also, do you have any details on what’s causing these edge cases?

Hey there,

From what I can see on the backend, your FTP should be pretty accurate right now.

As far as I can tell, you haven’t experienced the bug we’re referencing in this thread unless Vanesa has already sorted things out on the backend for you. I can confirm with her when she’s online.

Regardless, things are looking pretty solid from what I can tell. With that being said, you don’t have any recent TR workouts with post-workout survey responses for me to gauge how your workouts have been going. Are you following a structured plan at all, or just riding?

I’ve been mostly doing vibes-based training with a larger structure, but not too many proper intervals, because I spent the last month or so before my A race (Vermont Overland) focusing on pacing. So not too worried about max efforts, just sustaining a good pace for a while. Historically, I’ve always been absolutely terrible at pacing (going too hard, then having to rest for too long until the next time I go way too hard), so it was time well-spent, and I felt great at my race and had an all-time best finish.

AIFTP has me at 289, which (checking the TR Records screen) I held for 1:10 as part of a sweet spot ride. RPE and HR were both comfortably in sweet spot, as well.

I haven’t done any TR workouts because I just re-activated my subscription to tinker, since I’ve been considering trying it for this off-season, so TR wouldn’t have any subjective data to help push the FTP one way or the other.

Ran ai detection last Thursday. It dropped me 2.8%. Am at the end of a long plan and have successfully completed almost every workout with no recent maximum effort surveys or failures.

Can you check my calendar to see if it’s related to the bug.

Hello everyone, is this bug still living?

My last AIFTP detection was on 8/17/25 of 231, I am on speciality phase of my plan.

I’ve been doing all the workouts but one that I cut short because of sore legs and motivation, other that than I’ve been feeling really goods on rides.

AIFTP is now saying that my FTP dropped to 226 and that it ran it 1 day and 10 hours ago, which I didn’t run.
My AIFTP detection should be due in 9/14/25, heck being in Specialty phase I’m not even sure that I’m suppose to get a detection.

Eddie can you check if I ran into this bug?

For now I didn’t except it because everything seems too off, hell yesterday I completed a 105 minute workout the day after a race with sore legs and only gave it a hard rating.

Thanks

It doesn’t look like that was a bug.

After looking at some of your recent post-workout survey responses, I’d agree that your FTP was probably slightly too high.

You’re doing a lot of different types of training, though, so this doesn’t mean that your overall fitness across all sports has dropped.

How did your A race go over the weekend?

Thanks for the info on the FTP.

My A race went fantastic. Beat all my goals. Getting old (66) makes you realize you’re not going to match race performances from 10 years ago, but all the structured training lets you determine your abilities and set realistic goals.

Thanks,
Bob

Nope! This bug was really only present for about one day a few weeks ago.

It looks like support is working on your open ticket now. Stay tuned!

Hello eddie, I noticed a 2.5% drop in my FTP on August 24, even though it was only 15 days after my previous AI Detection. I didn’t make a big deal out of it, because it was the last week of the Base plan phase. Just let me know if it was part of the bug or if it was me. Anyway, the next AI FTP should be in 12 days.

Yes! You hit that bug we’ve been talking about.

I deleted those FTP detections from your account and you’re now eligable to run AI FTP Detection again. You’ll get a new, accurate detection now.

Sorry for the trouble!

Thank you Eddie, that one just didn’t feel right.

Trust you gut! We’re always here if you need us.

Eddie, I thought AIFTP was turned off during Specialty Phase, I was looking under resources but was unclear of the information.

I wasn’t sure why I was still seeing the 28 day count down timer.

This should help clear things up for you:

Here’s the bit that’s relevant to your question:

FTP Adjustments

FTP adjustments, on the other hand, mainly occur if you are in the Specialty phase of your training plan. Because FTP detections won’t run automatically during Specialty phases, FTP adjustments are used when necessary to keep your training on track. As a result, accepting an FTP adjustment won’t affect the 28-day timer linked to an FTP detection.

Two Types of FTP Adjustments

In general, our AI may suggest an FTP adjustment if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Completing a Level 9.0 Workout
  • Failing a Level 2.0 Workout

Again, support is working on your ticket, but after a quick glance, it looks like the issue here might be stemming from your race effort on September 3rd. You rated that ride as a “Max Effort,” but your power meter recorded an average power of 114 and an NP of 178, which are both well below your threshold. I have a feeling that your power meter wasn’t calibrated or something for that ride, which is throwing the system off..

I’ll get in touch with support to see where theyre at with your ticket. Hang in there!

Yes that was a Cyclocross race and I had my warm up included with the data.

It being a CX race you’re in the red from the start and power is all over the place.

After these races I wasn’t sure if I should answer the Survey Very Hard because I finished with out quitting or Max Effort because I tried my best yet the effort was high.

I have used this bike/ powermeter on the trainer for workouts and on some outside endurance rides.
