Thing is, it surprised me. I was progressing up in difficulty, never failed a workout. Quite the opposite, they were starting to feel a little easier than they should and I was expecting it to go up a bit.
like most recently, did the Garraun VO2Max workout, 6 intervals 2-2.5m. Did this one on the trainer. I basically read a book the whole time….which I normally can’t do, say, right after my FTP is adjusted up.
I suspect it’s because I’ve been doing more workouts outside where it’s naturally a bit more variable. Maybe threw the AI off?
Anyway, I rejected the adjustment. Right thing to do? Yay or nay?
Lost faith in it, dropped me 25 on 2 occasions when rejoining (when I know its gone up). Pretty frustrating when the reason for rejoining was the ai ftp. . Maybe get them to look at it ?
I would think if you rated the workout as easy or moderate (if you could spare your attention for reading a book, that seems about right), then you’d at least see your progression level jump up and you’d get a tougher vo2 workout next time.
I got a ftp bump up early in the season, then a decrease most recently (for good reasons). Still, my last anaerobic workout was spot on for “very hard”.
Which is fine, if my FTP is falling down to the level it was when I wasn’t doing structure training and trying to fit efforts in around life etc, then I don’t need the plan and can just ride for fun and chuck in some sprints and VO2 when I am feeling like it. I’m not arguing the system is wrong, if thats what it says has happened I have no reason to disbelieve it, but it’s come at a good time for me.
Life is changing dramatically, getting shorter by the minute, and it’s made me realise that fitting in training right now, and, more importantly recovery, is no longer a priority. I think, if I had maintained where I was at, I would have probably kept TR ticking over but there is no point if I’m loosing fitness that quickly.
Apart from dropping me after a period of illness and not-so structured work, AI FTP only ever gave me increases. Recently put me back at the level I was before illness. So for me it seems to be pretty spot on.
I think the feedback surveys and how you answer them + what block you are in matters a lot. F.e. after a specialisation block your FTP usually won’t increase in my experience
Yesterday it tried to drop my FTP by 25 watts (8.5%) after 3 weeks of no structured training. I have been riding outdoors at least 4 times a week since taking a break from structured training. I found that quite weird but just refused it.
EDIT: I emailed TR support and they confirmed that it is/was a bug and to stick with the previous FTP.
This doesn’t necessarily mean you’re fitter or have a higher ftp. That’s a pretty easy workout. It’s also not really how vo2 max is supposed to be done, if you could read a book during it you weren’t doing vo2 work
There was actually a bug that popped up over the weekend that caused this issue with certain FTP detections. You did the right thing by ignoring the suggested FTP.
It looks like you’ll be able to run AI FTP Detection on Thursday, and you should get an accurate updated estimate then.
Sorry for any confusion!
@JoPage, you ran into this same issue. I’ve fixed your FTP for you by deleting that latest entry.
If anyone else had a funky FTP update on the 23rd or 24th, let me know, and I’ll take a look!
Thanks I realized it would be funny to complain about a bump but if there was something funky going on I didn’t want to assume it was only in the bad way.
I have been speaking to Kent to see why mine dropped could you take a look ? I rejoined to run it on 16th, I normally then get another AI FTP within the months subscription, then I cancel, rejoin a month or two later, I self coach so only use TR for AI FTP. It dropped 22 watts, I know mine has risen a few watts not dropped as im doing time trial intervals at 100-105% twice a week. It’s 8 days later and I still don’t know what it is. Ive been told the team is looking into it. Also happened 3 months ago it was an ‘edge case issue’. If its not going to work ill do a ramp test, just need to know.
@Michael_D I’ll dig into your case. It looks like one of our leads is discussing it with the PM.
@Theo_Cloete I’ve removed those 383 estimations from the 24th, but the 388 from yesterday is likely pretty close. Your workout yesterday validates that.
