Wattshop test data on a few helmetsā¦
Well I am sure Specialized would not have released it without testing it in their āWin-tunnelā. However, I am not sure I want the embarassment nor the extra insulation of a sock.
Hard to take their āscienceā seriously when they present data in such a poor way.
Hi all! New to the forum. Iām in the market for a new front TT wheel coming from an 80mm Reynolds.
Pretty interested in the Revolver Troika Max and also wish we had some data available for the new Princeton tri spoke. Other consideration is the Titan.
Still not sure I understand if there is a general benefit from a tri spoke (certain degree of yaw) either in how they behave at that yaw or their actual aero benefit. Does anyone have tangible experience with both types? Im 195cm and 86kg so crosswinds generally arenāt too big a handling issue for me, but with a goal including Tour of the Gila TT in the US, pretty famous for gusting 40kph crosswinds, Iām still trying to factor that into my choice.
And unless Iām wrong, historically tri spokes suffer closer to 0 compared to deep section rims. Itās interesting with the new offerings coming out how that may not or at least may be less of the case.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
Decent article, if a bit superficial, about the requirements to go fast in TTās.
Have used both wheels. I donāt think there is much difference in speed. I find the Titan remarkably stable, more so than the Revolverā¦
Zephyr is probably the best compromise of speed and stability, incredibly stable for 78mm, and probably no more than 2W slower at 45kph than any faster wheel.
To piggyback this post, I tested a revolver copy and 88mm 25mm wide wheel with the same tires in the tunnel and the difference was within a couple watts at 30mph. Iām not sure there is much to gain from the best current offerings.
I can second this. Iāve run both a TroikaMax and Titan front and I also found the Titan to feel more stable. Iām a big guy at ~95kg, so neither presented a problem for me, but I can feel the TroikaMax getting pushed around more.
Ironically, thereās a similar discussion going on over at ST right now. Seems the new PCW wheels are actually available for purchase now, but require an email to their pro team.
Any numbers/hints on how that wheel did at 0-5 degrees vs the max? I have the non-max now and looking at max and titan. The max is an obvious upgrade, but I think I can use that money more effectively by tunnel testing.
Also, can you reshare the link? It looks like its checkout link.
To answer the question how deep, is too deepā¦
This is about the weirdest bicycle wheel I have seenš¤
All Time trial enthusiasts here. Just putting it out there I am a triathlete but love my Thursday TT club session.
Looking at getting a new TT bike. I would like to get a new bike and would need some on bike potential storage for a bento box and hydration. I am open though.
However, I am looking for the most versatility and would like to be able to have as many options as possible for changing handlebars/stem everything if I can.
In your guys opinion what bikes would you recommend/to take a look at.
Thanks
@acarr thanks for the heads up on the wrong link. Correct one below. So itās the exact design of the Troika TMD, which is the disc offering that doesnāt have that central bubble. From Revolverās data on the Troika Max page you can see the cda difference hovers in the <.001 difference range from 0-5 degrees, spreads a bit when you get beyond that but still incredibly close and translating that to watts is in the range of about 1 (or so Iām told)
So GP5k TT Tdf front, Veloflex 25 rear it is
When riding on really smooth tarmac, I guess that would be among the fastest setups. Probably 23/25 Record is still the fastest set up.
For everything but great tarmac, I wouldnāt recommend the records at all. Michelin TT all the way!
Giant Trinity Advanced is since 2016 not changed and still where used during the the last WK Time Trial. Still one of the fasted frames in the world.
Continental tire shapes definitely have an aero advantage, although Iām not totally sure if that supercedes the cdr difference. Such are the weeds to get lost in! But if theyāre good enough for Dan Iām leaning towards the aero being pretty big benefit.
