A Time Trialing Thread

Nervous! I have done my usual trick of deciding to rebuild my bike, and with only days to go, its still not rideable! And training hasn’t been smooth either, but I am hoping that was just a bit of tiredness after a decent block a few weeks ago. So, we will see. I went OK at Anfield, and I think I am in better shape now - so I haven’t given up all hope!!

How about you, Jamie? I notice Spindata predicts you’re going to beat me, so the pressure is surely on!

Agree with this from data I gathered in the Windtunnel.

I will be there as well. First 100 for me :flushed:

And me! My 3rd.

Fingers crossed its in 1 piece for Sunday! Would be shame for it to go pete tong becuase of mechanical issues.

Sounds like I’m in a similar position to you after a block of tapering-racing-recovering-racing-recovering and hope I was also just a bit over-tired. Hopefully our legs will turn up on the day!

Haha for some reason I’ve been set off 4th last but my PB’s over that distance definitely don’t warrant it. Goals are a) to finish b) to beat my time on the course from last year and c) dip under 3:45

Good stuff! Definitely a 1st time friendly course and should have a blast with it being a championship event!

I did my first 50 there last weekend.
I live in Appleby so I ride the 10s and 25s they hold on that stretch of road when they are on.

Under 3:45 would me a brilliant time.
I’ve no idea what to expect time wise, so just aiming to finish it.

Hilarious - On the F2/25 a few months ago I was 29.9mph on the way out and 22.8 on the way back into the wind.

Go to spindata and find out your predicted time!

Spindata has me down for a 3:41 but I doubt I will get close to that.
My longest TT was the 50 last weekend so I think it’s predicting a faster time than I will manage on the day.

I’ll be there on Sunday too.

I’ve never seen the spindata predicted times before but it has me down for a long 3:59 which would have been on the cards last year but given how poorly I’ve trained this year and how rough the Anfield 100 was a few weeks ago I don’t think I’ll be anywhere near that.

I think its going to be a much better course, and probably a better day than Anfield. @Jamie_Berry and @Jnestie know the course better than I do - what’s the surface like, guys? And how undulating/flat does it feel?

New wild disc wheel by aero coach.
The AEOX Orbit and AEOX Orbit Ultra.
It’s allegedly 2.2W faster on average faster at 45kph on a Cervelo P5 Disc than the 321 Disc.
There are 2 versions, one with a cheaper, heavier hub with center lock interface, and one with what appears to be an Extralite Cyberdisc with 6 hole Interface.
The disc is based on a Zephyr spoked wheel, and has covers over it. No whoompieness!
The normal version is 1085g light, the ULTRA version is claimed to be sub 1000g.
The most obvious change over the previous change over the previous gen is the zig zag profile around the lowered part of the rim.
The rim is just as wide as the former model (with the same underlying wheel), but claims to have no penalty (-0.2W) when going from 25 to 28c tires.

Only 1 question - do they “whomp”? Everything else is secondary.

2.2w seems like a wash. Hard to justify IMO.

I answered it above. I know it’s sad :disappointed:

The 2.2W faster than the 321 disc, which is probably the fastest wheel there is (most used disc, when non sponsored equipment is used).

I see it this way:
All disc wheels are fast, this might be the fastest. If you don’t have one, this is the fastest option to go.
If you have another one, it’s no reason to upgrade.
Also, the fact that it has no penalty for using 28s is probably it’s biggest feature.

Ah, I missed it…no “whomp”, no purchase.

These are the rules. :man_shrugging:

Surface was absolutely fine, I had no problems.
There’s a long drag before the turn at cockermouth, it’s a steep short climb on the return leg to Keswick.
Return leg to Keswick definitely feels faster.

+1 for this. The outward leg from HQ towards Cockermouth most likely be slower on race day given wind direction but should also make for a fast return.

Besides the aforementioned ‘climb’ after the turn, there’s only really one undulation on the outward stretch, where the two carriageways split and one takes some slightly higher ground, that you actually feel.

Road surface generally ok, and quite good by Lake Dst standards. Some areas of dead smooth tarmac, rest has that weathered feel to it
