A (hopefully) simple Plan Builder question

Hi - coming back to TR after 4 months off the bike due to injury.

I see that Plan Builder now recommends the numbers of days/workouts per week, and number of hard days per week. Will those recommendations (days per week and number of hard days) change as my progression levels increase? Or do I need to make those kinds of changes manually?

Asking because I’m targeting 5 days per week. Plan Builder recommended 4. Just starting back out, 4 makes sense but I’d like to get back to 5 as my fitness improves.

It’s my experience that the plan will not automatically add more days per week. Once you tell it how many days and hours you have to train it will not deviate from that. It will recommend rest days (red light green light). As you progress it will recommend different workouts based on intensity. You will be able to accept them or reject them.

Right now you need to make those changes manually. I think I remember reading @Nate_Pearson saying in the future the idea is for Plan Builder to do check-ins and update suggested number of days and workouts accordingly.

Yes. I did something similar. You can specify the days per week by editing the plan on the web. I don’t think it’s possible on the phone or computer app. On the web site, click on Career and your current plan will be shown in a block. Click on the ellipsis at the top right of the plan block and choose edit plan. Then click on the Settings gear at the top right and you can choose the number of workouts per week. The change will take effect going forward. It took me a while to find that.

I did January as recommended, 4 days. Saw I was fine with it. In February I edited the plan up to 5 days.

Welcome back! Hope the recovery is going smoothly.

As of now, any “updates” to volume/intensity of a plan that you add to your TR Calendar will have to be applied manually. Other athletes are correct that we’re planning on adding a monthly “check-in” feature that would allow Plan Builder/AT to assess your recent training and provide you with updated recommendations, but we don’t have anything like that in place yet.

For now, if you train through a block and things go well, you can run through the Plan Builder steps again and it may give you an updated plan with increased volume.

Here are the steps if you need them:

Hope that helps – feel free to let us know if you have any other questions as you get back into it!
