Finding and completing a workout is now easier than ever with plans, filters, analysis tools and more. TrainerRoad 5.0 for iOS has arrived.
Here’s what’s new:
- In-App Training Plans
- Filter by Workout Duration, Intensity and more
- Interval Analysis with New Zoomed-In Graph
- PowerMatch
- Tacx Support with ANT+ FE-C Wireless Protocol

In-App Training Plans
Smart cyclists use training plans to get faster. With TrainerRoad 5.0 for iOS, you can search for base, build or event-specific training plans directly from your device. You have access to the entire plan from start to finish, making training from your iOS device easier than ever.
This new version of the app also let’s you sort through workouts by team. Quickly and easily find workouts published by coaches, teammates and friends — all with a tap of your finger on your iPhone or iPad.

Filter by Power Zones, Workout Type, Instructions and more
You now have the ability to find the perfect workout straight from your device with our new filters. Search for workouts to fit your time schedule, intensity and more.
Check out these new workout filters for:
- Power Zones
- Workout Duration
- Workout Intensity
- Workout Instructions

Interval Analysis with Zoomed-In View
The new zoomed-in interval view keeps you focused on the task at hand by showing just the current interval and your progress as you move through it. The best way to attack your workout is by one interval at a time and now you’ll be able to do exactly that. To get a better look at what’s ahead in the workout, or to zoom in on the upcoming set, you can now pinch-zoom the lower workout view as well.
The new interval analysis tool simplifies post-workout analysis. After finishing the workout and tapping the “View Interval Data” button, you can pinch-zoom anywhere on the workout to analyze your data for a more detailed view. Or, just tap on any of the intervals below the graph to zoom in to see the numbers behind your performance.

PowerMatch
With PowerMatch, you can control the resistance of your electronic trainer with the power data from your power meter. Additionally, you can manually offset your electronic-trainer’s power readings so that they match those of your power meter. Power meters are one of the best training tools available, but their power readings can differ from unit to unit. With PowerMatch, you’ll get accurate power readings for a better indoor-training workout.

Tacx Support with ANT+ FE-C Wireless Protocol
TrainerRoad now supports the new ANT+ FE-C wireless protocol. FE-C is a new version of the ANT+ protocol designed specifically to work with indoor-training hardware like electronic trainers and spin bikes. Visit our Tacx Trainer and ANT+ FE-C Support post for more information about this new wireless communication protocol.
What’s Next?
We’re hard at work on video for iOS and have begun revamping our desktop app. We’re building some pretty awesome new features as we continue updating our desktop app, and all of these features will be available on iOS and desktop platforms at the same time.
Until then, check out TrainerRoad 5.0 for iOS in the app store and keep training smarter to get faster.

And still no support for Wahoo RFLKT?!?
Hey Jeremy,
I assume that you are referring to using the RFLKT as a bridging device, but correct me if I’m wrong.
We haven’t supported any bridging functionality from devices yet as the industry still seems very undecided on a standard for this. However, we do plan to support bridging as the industry moves towards a common standard.
Any news on when you will add android?
Hey Jared,
No news on Android development right now as we’re hard at work on moving our desktop app over to this new codebase and adding video functionality. We’re still a small development shop, so we have to take these things one bite at a time 🙂
Great features.
What’s next? Acknowledging and serving the Android users I hope!
Hey Wiet,
We wish we could build for all platforms right from the get-go, but as I mentioned to Jared, we’re still a pretty small dev-shop. Right now we’re 100% focused on desktop.
Quality above quantity, I like that!
Really looking forward to video sync in iOS good luck with it guys!
Thanks Andy! It’s coming along nicely 🙂
I’m confused. All of this iOS support is great, and I look forward to spending time with TR this fall. However, I am not aware of any way to get ANT support on current Apple products (lightening connector) and you don’t support the Wahoo RFLKT+, so how am I supposed to use these features?
Hey David,
To use ANT+ devices with an iOS device you just need the Wahoo ANT+ key and a Lightning/30-Pin adapter. This link explains the particulars and gives you links:
http://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201618914-ANT-Connectivity
Thanks for that information, I may just have to get one. For some reason, I was thinking that Wahoo stopped making that due to compatibility issues with IOS8+. I guess that was only DigiFit’s key… http://blog.digifit.com/2014/09/digifit-discontinues-ant-support-ios-8/
No problem!
did my first workout with the update. I do have a Stages Power Meter & a Kickr.
I might have missed something but have you disable the ability to let the Kickr control the Watts through ERG mode? The data stream continuously in the top right hand corner showing what I think is offset data a little frustrating. For me personally I just want the Kickr to hold the Watts for me while I work on cadence..
Hey Allan,
ERG mode is definitely still there. Could you shoot an email to our support team at support@trainerroad.com ? They’ll be able to get everything sorted for ya!
Filters really are an added value, thanks! However, it seems to be buggy. No workouts can be found if I select Sweet Spot as the only filter. If I try to filter for Recovery, it lists also some of the Threshold workouts. I guess you need to spend some more time on testing?!
Hey Tom,
We’ve fixed this for our upcoming release. It’s been in beta for a bit and working great. 🙂
Stay tuned for the next release (should be soon)!
