NEW: Log Heat or Menstrual Cycle on a TrainerRoad Workout

When you struggle to hit your power targets or end a workout early, the TrainerRoad post-workout survey now lets you log Heat or Menstrual Cycle as the reason, in a single tap. Athletes have long requested and written these reasons in by hand, so now we built them right in.

What changed: two new one-tap reasons

When a workout doesn’t go to plan, TrainerRoad asks you what happened. That answer is how TrainerRoad AI tells the difference between a bad day and a real change in your fitness. Until now, if the reason wasn’t on the list, you typed it into a notes field. Now Heat and Menstrual Cycle are options you can select with a single tap. No more typing!

You asked, we listened

This update came directly from you. Over the past few years, many of our athletes have requested the ability to indicate menstrual cycle-related workout impacts. And when we looked at what athletes were typing into the notes field when a workout didn’t go to plan, heat was the most common write-in. So rather than make you type them out every time, we made these two options you can choose in a tap.

Who can use the Heat and Menstrual Cycle options

  • Heat is available to every athlete. Whether it was a hot training room or a hot day outside, if the heat is why you ended your workout early or could not hold your power targets, you can now say so directly.
  • Menstrual Cycle is available to any athlete whose account is not set to male.

You can use the new options on workouts going forward, and you can also apply them to past workouts too. Reopen the survey on any workout where you struggled to hit your power targets or ended early, and the new options will be there.

How this helps TrainerRoad AI give you better workouts

Every workout you complete teaches TrainerRoad AI something about you, but a workout result on its own only tells half the story. A workout you cut short because you were overheating is not the same as one you cut short because you have lost fitness, and the more precisely you can tell us which it was, the more precisely we can respond.

That is the whole idea behind this update. Better data in means better workouts out. Two taps tell TrainerRoad AI a lot: you give it a clearer picture of why a workout went the way it did, and it makes better, more appropriate decisions about what you should do next.

How to log Heat or Menstrual Cycle on a workout

  1. Finish a workout where you struggled to hit your power targets, or end one early.
  2. Open the post-workout survey when it asks why the ride was challenging.
  3. Tap Heat or Menstrual Cycle, then submit.

To add a reason to a past workout, reopen its survey and the options will be there.

This is just the first step

This is the first of a series of improvements we are making to post-workout surveys over the coming months. Each one is aimed at the same goal: helping TrainerRoad AI understand your training more precisely, so the workouts it recommends fit you better and your training keeps moving forward.

Do you need to update your app?

There is nothing you need to set up. The new options are live now for nearly every athlete, with no app update required unless you are on a very old version of the app.

Frequently asked questions

Who can use the Heat option?

Every TrainerRoad athlete. Heat is available to all accounts.

Who can use the Menstrual Cycle option?

Any account that is not set to male (female, non-binary, prefer not to say).

What workouts can I log these reasons on?

Any workout where you struggled to hit your power targets, or any workout you ended early.

Can I add Heat or Menstrual Cycle to past workouts?

Yes. Reopen the survey on a past workout you struggled with or cut short, and the new options will be available.

Do I need to update the TrainerRoad app?

No, not for nearly every athlete. Only very old versions of the app need an update.

Why did TrainerRoad add these options?

They were among the reasons athletes typed in and requested most often. Building them in gives TrainerRoad AI cleaner data about why a workout went the way it did, which means better workout recommendations for you.
