Workout suggestions with "Fatigue Detection" off

I turned “Fatigue Detection” off because I think if it’s on then the AI will automatically edit my scheduled workouts, and I don’t want it to automatically change anything without giving me the option to accept the change. (In the past TR gave you this option.)

But ! I would like TR to take into account fatigue when suggesting a workout. For example, today is a red day

but “Train Now” suggests Anaerobic 8.8. Previously TR would suggest a “Rest Day”. This feels like a regression?

In general I’ve been disappointed with the update so far. It might simply be the case that how I want to use TR is no longer supported (which I accept - not every app needs to cater to my individual needs!) but this is annoying because I already paid for a yearly subscription.

I’m in a very similar boat. I turned Fatigue Detection off for the same reason, I don’t want workouts being automatically modified without an explicit “accept/decline” step like we had before.

I think the new paradigm is to pin the workouts you don’t want changed.

That helps, thank you!

It shouldn’t be changing all of your harder rides to endurance. It does a pretty good job of serving up hard rides. Do you have an atypical schedule?

At the end of the day, one should always apply common sense. But I feel like adaptive training had a better UX here: it would trigger, and you could choose to accept/reject (though it would’ve been nicer to accept/reject individual workouts, instead of all changes at once).

So in essence you want to”Fatigue detection” off on the calendar AI but on for TrainNow (that uses the same AI). That’s a tricky edge case and I assume the behavior won’t change because of consistency reasons.

But why not set “Fatigue detection” on?

Instead of giving you the option to accept the change with “Fatigue detection” on you still have the option to decline the change and set back to the original workout (by clicking the note above the workout card). So the option is still there just the process is the other way round.

This has been a massive balls up.

Why is my page full of yellow and red days all of a sudden. No I’m feeling absolutely fine so I’m not having a rest day.

I’m doing a triathlon plan and I don’t think it is accurately reflecting different sports either.

Come on TR, please revert back to a previous version or at least give us the option to disable it all completely. It is ruined my TR calendar so far.

You can turn it off and it’s on the list of updates.

I still see AI ftp detection widgets in my app even though I don’t want it.

I still see red/yellow days even though I feel fine.

So no I can’t turn it off.

It’s on the list for the next updates.

The thing is … if you would be able to disable RLGL in the calendar I think you would also need to disable AIFTP prediction in combination. Because otherwise, I’m sure people would complain about a bad AIFTP prediction (which, as we know is influenced by fatigue detection) and nobody (not even the users themselves) could see the reason being that the user is training through red or yellow days.

If you feel fresh on a Red day something is wrong.

Exactly. I’m glad you agree.

Exactly. I’m getting red days all over the place now and I feel fine. I turned off the fatigue detection and its still changing my workouts all over the place. Seems like I’m playing whack-a-mole with the calendar. Actually could be a fun game they’re developing and using us to test it on :thinking:

As @LacticacidMCB says, it’s on the list of updates.

Hey @Kathleen

I will take this feedback to the team!

Right now, even when you turn off Fatigue Detection, it will still show you the Yellow and Red Days on the Calendar. This is something we are working on removing as it can cause confusion as what you are experiencing with TrainNow. Update: this has been fixed! Red and Yellow Days won’t show when you turn off Fatigue Detection!

Because you’ve turned off Fatigue Detection, TrainNow won’t take into account that it is a red day and recommend a workouts as normal, even if on your Calendar you are seeing it’s a Red Day (just a display thing). This is not a regression, you just have the setting off.

A solution for this would be to pin the workout if you don’t want it charged like @mtbjones mentioned

If you’d like to give more feedback as to what other things you’re not enjoying and how you want to use the app we would be happy to hear it! We always take athlete’s opinions to improve the experience.

Hey @Huegelreiter !

Having Yellow and Red Days from the get go is not a bad thing. For example, getting a Yellow Day after in Interval Day is a good sign that the workout pushed you correctly. And Red Days can show you a pattern of when are the best days for rest.

I personally like Fatigue Detection to find patterns in training vs. recovery.

Question for you, when you apply the plan, is it the recommended plan, or are you changing things before applying it to the Calendar? This can have an impact of how Yellow/Red Days are spread out, as well as your recent training history.

I looked at you Calendar and I only see Yellow Days, but one thing that caught my attention is the Endurance workouts on Saturdays. Shouldn’t those be Interval Days? Was it like this always? Because you’re green on those days. If so, I may need to look into this.

I do also want to point out that the way TrainerRoad builds custom plans is still the same, and Nate has explained this is something we’ll like to change and incorporate with the new AI logic but that’s a whole different monster.

Lastly, I wanted to reinforce our Be Excellent To Each Other rule for everyone.

From Nate:

Be excellent to each other
And as a personal favor, I request that these posts come from a spirit of curiosity rather than aggression. The “be excellent to eachother” forum rule applies to us, too!

An example would be that instead of “TrainerRoad admits it doesn’t know how to train,” your post title could be “Can someone check my prediction for me?”. Often, it’s as simple as changing your training approach to see gains in your predictions.

Even after a question is solved, the first title gets picked up by Google and ChatGPT and becomes the narrative, even if it was an error on the athlete’s part.

And of course, we are still learning from this AI and trying to improve it! We’ll look into everyone’s case and make improvements where we can.

I’d take yellow days as days you shouldn’t do a hard ride and occur more frequently when you are ramping TSS.

It sounds like you are returning to training. What does your current TSS look like compared to your 6-week average? In the past you may have been at a steady state training load, so you wouldn’t get them as frequently.

Post your TSS history chart.

Can you post your completed training for the last 4 weeks. You appear to be showing the future work. Also what are the huge spikes of 6000 TSS in the past? Trying to understand if the 300-400+ TSS you have scheduled is normal.
