Don't want to be penalized by AI

How can I disable AI when I’d like to do a VERY easy spin on a recovery day and not be penalized for reducing the intensity?

If you upload the ride to TR: you can’t. Even if you disable the AI prediction feature (don’t even know if that’s still possible), the workout will still impact your future workout selection and progression.

Only workaround to this would be to not upload the ride data to TR - but it should be obvious that this may not be an ideal approach. You are doing the “work”, so TR should be able to account for it. If not, why even bother with TR in the first place.

If you click the pencil icon you can then deselect Trainerroad AI from Career Inclusion.

It wouldn’t really be a penalty because whatever you do is what you do. Why not just be honest with yourself and the AI and let it know exactly what you have actually done?

I don’t know what you mean about “being honest…” If I do a 7 hour ride on Sat, TR (AI) will make Sunday a “Red” day.. It help me (@ 69 years old) to do a really easy spin, more than doing nothing. So why do you think my FTP should go down because I want to do an easy spin, instead of doing nothing at all?

But doing a lower intensity or will reduce your predicted gains. This is just the reality of physiology.

It’s ok that you want to have a lower intensity on easy days - but the system isn’t penalising you. It’s just estimating based on the recorded data it’s provided.

I’m not trying to be difficult!!! Either you don’t understand or I don’t understand!.?? IF AI gives me a red text day, but I know my legs will feel better spinning 45-60 minutes at low intensity, I don’t think my FTP should drop. I am stronger the following day after spinning way, but my ftp just went down…. Am I making sense???

If you feel better after those recovery spins keep doing them. The “ai” is not the truth of what your performance will be

Sure it might think that your FTP will go down after that recovery ride but if you do better on following hard workouts because it helped you recover better than your ftp should actually go up in the long run.

Well that makes sense, but at my age I don’t want to see pseudo declines. I’ve used TR for over 8 years and this year 99% of my workouts were easy and my ftp dropped, because I chose to do easy sounds instead of taking the day off. I have been using Training Peaks with a coach for about 6 weeks now. I’d like to use TR again, but I’ve gotta figure this out. Someone has mentioned a way to disable A.I., and that may be my answer…Anyway, I appreciate all the input!!

I don’t think there is a way to fully disable their ai.

You can turn off prediction of ftp or adjust the aggressiveness of the plan however.

Adjust that approach might help avoid red days and hopefully stop it from adjusting workouts downwards. You could also pin workouts if you want.

What if you pin the Sunday ride so it doesn’t change, but still leave the Saturday spin visible? That should be the best of both worlds where you still get the workout you want on Sunday, but the AI gets to train on what you actually did and learn what you’re truly capable of.

I’ll investigate this "pin” approach, since I don’t know how. This may be the answer…

I don’t actually think it’s AI you want to turn off… I think it’s automatic fatigue management you don’t like?

This isn’t AI driven and can be turned off in account settings…

Thanks

Maybe someone from TR can clarify, but I was under the impression that that setting only flattens out your yellow and red days to active recovery if you breach that metric. The AI will still assign you lower intensity in future workouts because it’s trying to hit a TSS target. I don’t think you can do anything adhoc without affecting future workouts in the current system.

The Ai does not dictate how your FTP is changing over time, your training is. Turning it off iis like closing your eyes and thinking that no one can see you.

Can you share a snippet of your calendar?

Red days generally mean the system thinks you’re deep in the fatigue hole. I get the odd yellow day in a week, but reds only on training camps etc.

The system may think you’re overtraining and be dropping the intensity of everything as a result. If you then do easy rides on days where the system thinks you should have total rest it will spiral.

But it’s hard to tell without seeing the calendar.

This isn’t strictly true.

You are correct that the AI does factor in everything you do and it’s affected by fatigue - but it isn’t trying to hit a strict tss target.

You can add a fair bit of easy riding and other activity before you see any effect at all - and even when changes are made they will be more subtle than those that the fatigue management causes.

What does my calendar have to do with any of this??

I don’t really know, but my impression is that the AI FTP is a prediction based on following a plan, not current FTP. The plan it created is what it believes to be optimal given the inputs, including goals, schedule, activity history… If you do something different from what’s in the plan, then it’s “non optimal” and the prediction goes down. If external factors have changed, like being able to ride more days, or put in more time, or planning Solo or Group rides, then it’s probably best to edit the plan to reflect that.
