Has anyone else noticed that outdoor workouts seem to reduce TrainerRoad’s AI FTP Prediction?
Ramp Test FTP: 283 W (I’m a punchy rider, so it’s not accurate)
FTP Detection: 268 W
Here’s what’s happening to me:
-
I complete my scheduled workouts indoors without any issues.
-
Recently I did an outdoor VO₂max workout, and it actually felt great compared to my threshold workouts, and marked as hard.
-
After syncing the outdoor ride, AI FTP Prediction lowered my FTP from 278 W to 272 W.
-
As a result, all of my upcoming workouts changed to easier ones.
The strange part is that if I manually switch back to the originally scheduled workouts, My FTP prediction drops to 258 W.
For context, during a recent group ride, I averaged 267 W for 45 minutes, and it didn’t feel like an all-out effort. So an FTP of 258 W doesn’t seem to reflect my current fitness.
Is there something about how TrainerRoad analyzes outdoor workouts that could cause this? Has anyone experienced AI FTP Detection lowering their FTP after outdoor VO₂max workouts, even when the workout felt great?
It’s not an ego thing, I just want a somewhat accurate number.
