A few times a year, an extra 10 to 15 seconds get added to the end of an interval, lengthening the interval and shortening the recovery time between intervals. In this example, the recovery is 3 minutes so it was only reduced to 2:50. But when the recovery is only 30 seconds, then it’s a bit more impactful. Anyone else experience this? I’ve asked TR support about this a few times over the past 8 years, but no cause has been found. During this period I’ve used 2 different Saris Hammer smart trainers and 3 different iPhones.
It is almost certainly a temporarily dropped connection between the device controlling the trainer and the trainer itself - the message to lower the resistance is missed, and only catches up later
Likely caused by a ‘noisy’ wifi/BT environment rather than the specific devices in question
I agree with @trpnhntr on this one. This is usually a signal issue.
It looks like this only really happened noticeably on the fourth interval..
What does your training setup look like? It sounds like you’re using an iPhone. Are you running other apps alongside TR? What Bluetooth devices are you using for both your training setup and other things in the general area?
Training setup is a Saris H3 paired to iPhone 14 running TR app; no other apps being used or other Bluetooth connections nearby. This only occurs once during a workout and always at the end of an interval, and fortunately only a few times a year. As seen in the screen shot, the watts start to decline but then climb back up, even above the level of the interval.
It’s really strange that it only happens once in a workout. Is it usually at a similar time?
It’s good that it only happens a few times a year, though.
I can’t remember Saris’ calibration protocols. Is there any chance that this is happening on the same day as a calibration or anything like that?
While this could be on TR’s side, the trainer seems more likely..
It could be worth reaching out to Saris, if anything, just to see if they’ve had similar reports. If not, then we could pursue other parts of the setup.
I’ve had this happen both ways where the trainer wouldn’t let up or hold recovery too long. .
For me it was my Bluetooth speaker causing a connection issue.
I got a usb-c wire for my speaker and went Direct Connect on my Kickr V5, TR been good every since and also my heart rate data doesn’t dropout anymore.
I also run my workout from an Iphone
I have this happen to me occasionally but it’s usually an earlier interval. There’s been times that it’s at the end of the interval but also beginning of the interval. I’ve never been able to pinpoint the cause but have assumed it’s some sort of interference. FWIW I’m also on a Saris H3 but using an Apple MacBook Air.
