What workout did you do today? (2020, part 1)

Outside group ride

I have this workout scheduled next week, the day after a Ramp Test, I think… Can’t say that I’m excited about that :joy:

You could just be fatigued and ready for recovery. You are at the end of build after all! If you keep failing I would visit FTP but just 1 could be a fluke/sign it’s time to rest.

Vancouver this morning. Was a little worried I’d still be rusty after being off the bike but this went very smoothly. Felt nice and steady throughout, hung out in the aero bars the whole time. Completed Buckhorn a few weeks ago and had to pop out of the bars in the final set. But even at 4% points higher this one went incredibly well. Feeling great about my progress over the past few months.

45.3 miles of zone 2 outside @20.7 mph …out early again - but traffic still building post lockdown in the UK…pretty windy as well - felt more fun than yesterdays Boarstone+1 in my hall where the microclimate isn’t windy but was warm and humid

Too high FTP or non sufficent cooling. Yes I know you have a good cooling, but in my case the cooling that I use was more than sufficent even one week before but now it is not good enough when temperature and humidity has risen. And Galena+1 is not an SS bur @95% FTP is closer to threshold workout.

Absolutely important to take temps into consideration as well. If you have a really tough workout coming up it’s worth making schedule changes to optimize conditions, if you have the flexibility.

Replaced Bald Knob with another early morning beautiful outside ride. This thing about riding bikes outdoor, it’s under-rated I think.

Good to consider, though I have air conditioning blasting tailwind and good fan.

OK today Ericsson , at the begin I was so tired, ( yesterday outside I rode hill 42km) but after the first block I’m going to feel good, finished in good mood., very tired but satisfied for the job.now when I clean my house I recover. :grinning: :cold_sweat:
PS I dont know if Workout’s names have any attinence with the activity or are purely random.

Spanish Needles -3
It was going well, slight knee pain on upper right inside (new pain for weekend!) but nothing getting worse as I progressed through. Else would have pulled workout.

Was shouting out loud the count down of remaining micro bursts. Fifth interval came up, three from end and then no power in legs, resistance came on and legs had nothing in them. I’d settled on doing 110rpm through the sets, as hard as it was getting there was no indication I was getting to the cliff edge.

Anyway had a think in final rest interval, thought I can grind out last 16 micro bursts at 90 ish rpm. Come sixth and final set, that’s what I did and probably could have done another set. Must have exhaust my slow twitch fibres! Fast twitch to rescue again!

Also looking at graphs, slow RPM seems to top out power, where majority of fast RPMs done quite hit the targets, but I’m not going to get hung up over a few watts. I think workout served its purpose.

Streak Day # 225 Completed.

Am into my FTP build block and hit 2 x 15 min today targeting 230w on an MLSS of 225. Build up progression to an hour over the next couple months.

This is a loop of about 7 miles which works well for anything from sprint work to 15 min loops. Its about 20 min all the way round. Was going to add a third 15 min effort at 90-100% and can see it start at 44 minutes. Unfortunately at the 7 min mark, came across a four car fender bender. After pausing to work through the mess, thought about starting back up but wasn’t feeling it and just cooled down.

Decent pacing on the road and felt solid. The small dips in power are corners and traffic signals.

Red line is approximately 90 % HRM and accumulated 21 minutes above that line.

Clark for me Log In to TrainerRoad It’s been a few months since I last did this, six to be precise, so interesting to compare.

My average increase over the sweet spot/threshold intervals was 13W or 5%. However looking at my notes from December I had increased my FTP manually and was just matching that value. This time I felt there was quite a bit of leeway and there was probably another 5% available.

Think I rode this at almost +1 intensity
Don’t even get the opportunity for a sneaky back pedal on the rollers
I’m already riding 9 over my last FTP result but still hopeful of another increase in a couple of weeks.

Joe Martin Stage Race
Stage 1 ITT
Lost time in the middle section. Regained it in the last section of the climb.
I got my pacing wrong over the first 4k flat section where I wanted to sit at 320-330w and on the climb 350w, 400w for the last 500m.
Instead I was 340w for the flat section 352 for the climb, 436w for the last 300m. Finished at 347np with a 345avg.

Been focusing on sustained power since Christmas, but switched to maintenance last week due to all races being cancelled. Spanish Needle was a shock to the legs this morning. :grimacing:
