SSBMV2 Week 5 Wright Peak -1 today.
Cracked after the second set. Had a terrible night sleep and struggling with allergies. First ever workout I failed. Last set was done in Z2.

Thanks.
As for the target power, there seems to be a glitch in the summary. For example, if I look at Spanish Needle -3, the target is 140% of FTP or for me 396 watts. That’s also what was shown to me during the workout. However, in the post-ride summary of my particular workout, it’s showing the target for each interval as 377 watts, which is 133% of my FTP. I have no idea where that target number is coming from. I’ve exceeded that false target in almost every interval by a fair amount. But to me, despite the summary, the real target is still 140% or 396 w (for me).
I’ve read in other threads that people have also noted the targets in summaries are sometimes lower than the targets in the workout descriptions.
You should try a block of Trad Base MV II
Might be worth raising a ticket when I get round to it (I’m OCD about these things!)
Today started with a warmup…
Followed by absolute murder in day 2 of our club’s virtual stage race. 5 laps around Innsbruck town.
Some Z2 recovery + 5 min test. Nice and easy, 5 min power went up after VO2 max block. On Monday another threshold block
Carpathian Peak +2. Bumped up the second half of the last interval to 101%. Totally insignificant…but makes me feel like I was able to exceed the workout rather than just not fail/not get crushed by it lol.
What does your hydration look like for an effort like that?
Won’t be racing at all this year methinks so after MTB Marathon specialty rest week it’s back to SSBLV2 while I continue to enjoy the fitness I’ve built on my local trails. Did a Taylor minus something or other the other day to kick things off & today was Kaweah. I conveniently rectified my overtightened shoes during the hardest interval Also interesting to note that my most hated workouts are my strength right now. I’ll take any vo2max or anaerobic work over extended time at threshold. I don’t want to suffer too long
right now. Oh well… successful workout & I’ll be back on the trails tomorrow no doubt riding harder than I should.
64 more miles zone 2 in the UK sun…really warm - temperature will be halved overnight and gets bloody windy…maybe Baxter for tomorrow!
Laurentian today. Longest training to date in the triathlon middle distance base phase training plan. All bike rides until now went well until this one. Heart rate was fine but somehow my legs where extremely heavy and just could not continue. Did not eat properly today and had quite a physical busy day.
Hopefully things go better next time after a good pre ride meal.
Not going to waste my peak so did Hour Record. Legs felt good, breathing was a little rough. I think with some better cooling (outside) my systems will feel a bit more in sync. Weighed in a 71.4kg before the ride for a cool 4.55 w/kg! Thanks TR crew <3
Chapeau. Solid effort, well done.
Animal and nice.
Lion Rock straight up.
Scheduled TSS 103/105, hit 119 (added 1 minute at the beginning and 1 at the end)
Scheduled IF .83, hit .88
Didn’t suck.
I lit up Every.
Single.
Interval.
The Sweet Spot/Low Threshold stuff even seemed pretty cake… I never managed to drift from “sprint” to tempo, it was more “sprint” down to threshold, then settle in to the prescribed sweet spot. Those little mini-temp to sweet spot ramps weren’t required for me in this iteration, with my trainer. I think the 10 minute recoveries between the sets were a little long, and pretty low for my current fitness, too. I kept looking down and was 20-30 watts high, getting close to traditional zone 2 endurance pace rather than active recovery. Once I get workout builder up and running, I might cut those out and add another sprint/2-3 minute block, see how that stacks up.
Maybe I should have tried a + variant… Or maybe I should stop typing out jinx-inviting workout write-ups.
Followed the workout with a kids (8,6, and almost 4) 40-minute ride around the neighborhood, enjoying beautiful, if chilly weather. The younger two still don’t get the “hold your line” concept on the sidewalk (“pavements” I think for old-world anglophones) and were swerving back and forth, putting each other into hedges, fences, trees and any other type of obstacle known in my neighborhood. Whatever, no stitches required and maybe they’ll figure it out next time. Added TSS of 1 with the kids. Added Living Life Stress (LLS) of 14 (arbitrary number based on the number of swears one has to withhold while trying to keep everyone safe and happy).
Will try to get out for a long ride tomorrow, but they’re calling for rain, so maybe boarstone.
Saint Elias outside. Gnarly headwinds fully cooked me today, but I got it done. I have some dogs to thank for that spike in the third interval. Assholes.
That’s a pretty solid job keeping it Z2 for a rolling course.
Thanks. Not on purpose for the most part.
