What workout did you do today? (2020, part 1)

Feeling pretty good about Ebbetts today. Halfway through the first interval I’m thinking No Way I’ll Make This. By the fourth I was jamming out to the Jerry Garcia Band live at the Bradley Center laying down a groovin’ Lay Down Sally and drilling it.

The right jams make all the difference!

Managed to keep myself off the bike yesterday and rest up which made Carillon feel very manageable today. Even scraped together a pathetic seated sprint at the end.

Nice and steady endurance session, followed by a couple of sets of short/shorts. Like Coach Chad, I much prefer this format and I find that it keeps things interesting.

After SSB2 I got an +18 Watt bump in FTP. Maybe I quit the Ramp a little early. Had a meeting 2 min after the Test… So today: Mount Goode +2 with a little extra

Holy suck buckets. Ran out of gas (and focus) on number 5, but tried to keep pushing the effort as best I could. Again feeling like the first few over-unders I did on TR so really challenging.

I’m actually happy to see a “failed” workout like this again… 9 workouts at 280 with just this one “fail” means my FTP is spot on. SSB2MV will be a hoot!

32 miles zone 2 yesterday, training tt today on the road bike 12.7 miles@272W and over 30s quicker than last week when I averaged 264W so my VO2 sessions may have made my legs more sprightly…weather is great in the UK according to the forecast this weekend…would rather be racing but a double day of zone 2 sun bathing will have to do…also have been getting bored - went for a mile run after each ride - @7:30mile pace…quite tough as I haven’t run since March 2018 - and I could run a 2:47 marathon 3 years ago - turns out if you don’t run you stop being able to…who’d have thought it!

Wright Peak, which is my benchmark fitness workout. Nailed it, although it was tough going at the end. Really happy. Two things. 1) I need a beer. 2) How much more am I going to get from SSB1 HV?

Substituted Reinstein for Baxter, it was tough but got through it.

Fish -2 (Who names a mountain Fish?). In the last podcast, Coach Chad said that more than 2 intense workouts ie. sweetspot or above /week may lead to diminishing returns. This week, week one of Sustained Power Build low volume Consists of 1 VO2 max workout, one workout with long intervals at 105% of FTP and today’s special, 4 x 15 min at 90, 94, 99, 94 percent of FTP. I backpedaled in the last 2 intervals, stood some to give my legs a change and my backside a breather, and backpedaled in the last rest interval. I may have to modify the plan if the intensity continues.

To be honest I did not seen any benefits from supra-threshold. They are quite taxating and replacing them with threshold progression I have seen way more gains and a recovery was a lot easier.

I am not sure if the SS was not removed from the intensity drawer during recent podcast.
