British translation: WTF!
Yesterday I did an outdoor ride instead of Bays. Nice to get out for ride number 2 of the year, although feels so weird after masses of focussed indoor work all winter. I tried to keep it in upper Z2, but that was pretty much impossible even though itās flat round here.
Back to quality today. A gel and 90g of home made Beta Fuel are all that got me through this one. A couple more workouts and Iām done with General Build and into recovery week - canāt wait!!
Bashful plus some 60% at the end. Have settled on a maintenance plan to get me through this weird time. I hope one 8 week cycle will be enough!
Since Iām WFH now and canāt really venture out, I worked in a core and weights workout earlier in the day then added some endurance after work.
Started a built plan with my new FTP.
Today I had to perform the āPierceā which consist out of 6x4.5-minute repeating sets of dying. Oh joy.
Decided to try my first ever real sprint workout with Birlingā¦I found out that I am most certainly not a sprinter. Made it 2/3 through the first interval, turned down 5% for the last three but still failed between 25 and 27 seconds through each. Followed that up with Taku
2 more hours in the sunshine this evening (I love this working from home lark - I can use my travelling home from work time to add to my ride)ā¦one less lap than yesterday and kept it easy for 37.5 miles. I like my local loop but it may get a bit tiresome if it is all I can use all summerā¦especially with zero racing! - put my front wheel in a pot hole which Iām pretty convinced wasnāt there yesterday ā¦.but no damage done as Iām still using my winter bike and tyresā¦in fact I may use them most of the summer as zippiness will probably not be needed in 2020ā¦Iāll settle for dodging this virus as a successful season! ![]()
Couple back spins on the final 2 intervals, and extended the breaks a bit, but pushed through. Pretty happy as I truly believe these are as much a mental workout as physical one, and with all the anxiety inducing activities going on in the world it feels good to be able to establish a good baseline for specialty. Hereās to hoping my first A event of the season in 8 weeks doesnāt get cancelled (probably will, but Iām prepared for that eventuality)!
Today was the first workout after a (surprisingly) successful ramp test that saw my FTP go from 249 to 273. First workout after the test was Ebbetts. It was really hard. As in, I was really struggling to keep the power up after each sprint (although I hit all the avg power targets). Having a dumb trainer didnāt help as I was really struggling to find a gear/cadence combo that let me spin at whatās now my new sweet spot.
Do other people find Ebbetts hard? Iām worried Iām going to really struggle later on in SSB2LV
I did the +2 version just after xmas as part of my hybrid mv/hv baseā¦total pointless now as there will be no UK time trials this yearā¦found it ok just needs a bit of focus getting back into the ss part after the sprints but the burn goes after about 30sā¦mind you my ftp has only gone from 289 - 298W so no massive jumps to get used toā¦biggest problem I had was getting the power up in the sprints in ERG mode (which I like to use for any session with intervals to keep me honest). I wouldnāt fancy many of the TR sessions without a smart trainerā¦worth the investment if you can get one.
Doing my social distancing bit here in the UK, plus being self employed so Iām effectively unemployed at the moment so, threw myself into Disaster for shits and giggles ![]()
I bailed on Kaweah +1 today and knocked it back to -1 just as I got on the bike. Thought I was too tired for it and it would impact an outdoor ride on Saturday. Really wish Iād kept it at +1 now. Definitely putting a note in the wall saying donāt bail. Think that will come in handy next week when the vo2 session ramps up a notch.
Lamarck +1. This is week 5 of my hybrid Mid/High volume SSBII plan, which Iām lovingly calling Hell Week in my head.
Powered through the first four (had a little PM hiccup on that third one and it got weird for a second) and dropped by 5% for the last two. Wanted to quit, didnāt quit. Iād say thatās a win.
Carson + an extra 55 minutes of riding mostly endurance but with a 8 minute hill climb and a 3 minute climb.
Started Traditional base MV I this week. Fletcher was the scheduled workout tonight. Felt pretty good and looking forward to getting my Saris MP1 next week to go along with my H3.
