What workout did you do today? (2020, part 1)

Taylor -2 for me, adaptation to the new FTP going really well.

Still trying to iron out the kinks on 3 way sync between TR, garmin connect on my 803 and strava.
Nothing major, but i have to say the numbers nerd in me was quite happy to see all those extra metrics recorded in the GC app

I“m on COVID-19 Government directed police enforced lockdown Day 9. Start of new training block with 8minute FTP Test 3% increase from 255 to 262 not much but within TR norms and at my advanced age 4months shy of 60yrs I“ll take it!

Second workout with the new fan but I had it in a much better position and what a difference - hardly any sweat dripping from my brow  I’m still finding VO2max workouts to be really hard and I’m not sure I’d have completed this without the increased cooling.

Held power and form for the first eight intervals but started to fade in the last minute of the last interval. I kept the intensity at 100% for the entire workout so I suppose my FTP is about right.

I did the @empiricalcycling FTP test workout that @alexgold123 created. It says my FTP should be bumped to 305, which makes sense; I think I could hold that for a good long while. I didn’t find this a great test for TTE however, because the ramp during the final 15min had me riding well above FTP. Looking forward to trying some of Kolie Moore’s other protocols for a better measure of TTE.

Was excited to start Build after the recovery week following the end of Sweet Spot Base II. So I skipped today’s day off and moved it up to Monday. I’ve decided to start running twice a week now that all my events are cancelled and of course began that last week during Recovery Week. So I feel I left a couple watts on the table. But this might be a good place to start build while adding the running stress.

Then I threw in an hour of Baxter -2 for post-ramp test endurance riding.

Did you look at all your intervals and where you where for each one regarding your power targets? TR says that you are compliant if you are within 90-95% of pwr tgts. When i struggle I review my intervals and see where i was with regard to pwr tgts and most of the time it“s not as bad as i thought when in the middle of the workout. For exampe, made 15 of 19 pwr tgts etc. just food for thought

Clark (yesterday)

Those stomps really do make the rest of the interval tougher.
Still monitoring some things that seem slightly off. Sweet spot is seeming a little too hard right now.

Ramp test! Lost 3 watts… felt flat for the last few days of easy spinning and well out of routine so great success in my book! Well within the p/m tolerance

Gonna do the standard TR routine and ignore it and just round up to 600 ftp because that’s how I feel it should be :stuck_out_tongue:
Just done sustained power so wasnt expecting great gains, much stronger than I was before though, with everything cancelled for a few months I’m going to have an easy week or two with SSB and then jump into short power build because I suck at V02 workouts

I use a mixture of looking at the average power for the interval in the workout summary along with feel and analysis via intervals.icu.

If my FTP is right then I’m usually within a couple of Watts, so less than 1%. Pride makes me want that 1% to be over the target power  My last interval today averaged 320W for the first half and 312W for the second half, this is for a target of 319W. That drop didn’t occur in the first eight intervals so I was definitely at the point where another interval wasn’t going to be productive. My average HR (and max HR) was also higher in that last minute than in other workouts but for not as much power.

For the first tinme since this whole COVID-19 kicked off i bailed out of a workout as I simply did not feel good about doing it, so I did something ā€œeasierā€ and went for Baxter

For all those on the verge of trainer madness:

Laurens De Vreese…put in the longest trainer session we’ve seen yet, logging a giant 370km ride…spent over 11 hours on the trainer…

A friend in training for the Highland Trail http://www.highlandtrail.net/ did a solid 24hrs on the trainer  Don’t know how far he ā€œrodeā€ in distance.

Spencer +2 done and dusted. Beast of a workout. Still, fully compliant which is awesome. :sunglasses: Only Lamarck and Leconte left before a fully deserved recovery week… Whoop!

Good work, looks like you completed it which I’m not sure should be possible! I agree that that one isn’t long enough, in fact the first one of these I made was progression 1, as I felt I wanted the longer option personally. I’d recommend either progression 1 or progression 2 - or just the good old hour record! - to really test TTE.

It’s annoying when you can literally feel you’re right at ā€˜FTP’ and the target ramps. I’ve thought that if I just held x wattage I could hang on a while but as the test ramps that extra 2 watts I can almost predict I’ve got about 5 minutes left from there! Very useful to feel though.

Nah, I switched to ā€œby feelā€ mid way through the ramp when it was clear I was at the point where the wheels would come off quickly if I went any higher. Then I just paced it as hard as I could for the remainder of the 35 minutes. I don’t have erg mode so ā€œby feelā€ is easier to do, no messing with intensity settings.

Thanks for the great workout, it was my favorite so far!

I did San Joaquin +3… I thought it would be tough but manageable.
I was broken by the end of it, but did just about hang in. Also the first time using Resistance mode, so that was interesting :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
