This morning I decided to jump the gun on my first go at the Short Power Build Low Vol. For some reason I really enjoy the new ramp test format. I nearly threw up afterwards. Not sure why I enjoy it…
Anyway, I got back into training after a bad crash had me laid off for a couple of months. Completed SSB1 LV and SSB2 LV in my usual mixed and matched manner. Started at 177. Tested 226 at the beginning of SSB2 and hit 248 this morning.
I’m really happy with the result and hope I can push through the festive season to keep things going.
Never heard of Steamboat Springs before and now twice in a week. The Fascat podcast was talking to the organiser of an event there. Sounds a wonderful place for outdoor sports.
Palisade. While tough, It was most definitely doable. I did however have issues with my right knee and pushed it as far as I could without causing too much damage. Had to stop the workout with one interval to go.
Truuli. First time trying a “leg opener” before the FTP test that is scheduled for Monday. Felt good after a recovery week of nothing but endurance workouts. Good way to end a recovery week.
Av Interval Pwr: 108%FTP (workout av 106%)
I think Double Day December is starting to pay off.
After the first couple I was warmed up but annoyed at trying to match gearing to power target (occasionally it doesn’t feel right/“match up”) so for the last 4 I tried to hold 100rpm. Sometimes it’s just easier
*(For the less hieroglyphic inclined – Elephants +5)
Did Eclipse, a few hours after getting back from 2 hours of racquetball. I felt plenty fresh after finishing the racquetball, so figured I’d be fine to cycle also. I’m not sure the last time I did a proper 2-a-day. Last few workouts I’d been raising power on, and generally felt strong. This crushed me.
I was going to do sweet spot again next. Planning on pettit now, and I’ll move the next sweet spot ride out a day.
Kaiser was up for me today. Still doing the older versions of SSBII since I added them to my calendar a while back.
I didn’t try to focus too much on meeting a specific power target, unless I was straying a bit too low, but was just trying to maintain focus during the sets and try to be as consistent as possible for 3 min. Result is a target that drops slowly… Seems like a very similar physiological response to these types of intervals… hold on for dear life the last 2-3.
Starting to realize that my actual fitness probably didn’t drop much from my end of season fitness, even though my ramp at end of SSBI says it did. Physiological responses now are saying I’m not much fitter from the previous block, but now the FTP setting is more appropriate and challenging.
