What workout did you do today? (2018/2019)

Good chunk of Sweet Spot today…Eclipse

Antelope +5.

I cut out about 15 minutes of rest out throughout the ride. Wasn’t exactly planning to, but I thought it seemed like a good idea after the warmup, so I kept it up. At about interval 3, fatigue started to set in. Felt moderatly hard until the last interval, when I unexpectedly felt AWESOME. Total cyclists high, put on some good music and started singing along. Like through pretty much the whole last work interval, while my HR at was ~88%. 10/10, would recommend.

I am planning on doing a small block containing a lot of VO2 workouts to raise the level a bit until a race the 30th of august. I have previous had good experiences with 30/15 types of workouts, but this time not so much. I did not get a suitable HR response, barely made it to treshold HR. It might be that I just was a bit tired, but also the my Flux is fluxed and erg-mode is all over the place when trying do to quick changes. I did this in resistanse mode and had to change gears both in the front and back to accomodate the steps. I will revert to 3-4 min intervals for this block.

Washington +2:

I waffled about replacing this with a ramp test, but I slept horribly and felt sort of dead and really any excuse to not do a ramp is good enough for me. I’ll take another week of not-that-hard and totally-doable workouts after a month of sweltering to failure.

Ainslie -4 for me today. I’ve had 2+ weeks off the bike with the particularly nasty strain of flu going round Australia this winter; it hit me like a truck. First two intervals at 95%, third at 90% and last and 85%. I was more interested in seeing how I felt (answer: not great!) than targerts, but there was no way I’d have been able to do them at 100%. Think I’ll drop my FTP a little which is super annoying as one of the last pre-flu workouts was a ramp test with a 7W bump!

Ramp Test prior to Sustained Power Build again:

FTP is now a lordly 150W, about 15% higher than this time last year. I know it’s not a big number, but I’m so much fitter and was able to complete the Seattle to Portland two-day double century. Gotta keep on keepin’ on!

Junction -3 this morning.

I’m either on the cusp of a breakthrough or a breakdown. The first section of this workout was relatively easy, compared to what I was expecting. The microbursts were torture. I was expecting to fly through those but oh no! Those microbursts needed two back pedals. My first back pedals, ever.

I was toast by the end of the second set and that required a 5% reduction.

Bashful (again) - 3x5x60"/60". Worked out ok, increased the last set a bit. That HIT Maintenance plan is, well, full of intervals…

This was another tough workout. This thing made me question why I’m doing this training. I have never wanted to quit or stop pedaling so badly. I had to dig deep into my pain tolerance and really focus. This hurt…

Props to you for finishing it. That was a brutal workout!!!

Taper week(s) for me on the docket, Monitor -4 was up today, and it was nice to have a short workout, feel like I earned it after pushing through my first full trainer road base/build/specialty!

Mount Goode -2:

I felt good and then I felt tired. Starting to feel guilty about procrastinating the ramp test.

Is it bad that my cadence seems to climb with power? First set average was 101, second was 103. I don’t think I’ve ever hit that rpm outside, so should I be toning it down for better practice? I tried to drop it to around 95 for the third set, but it kept creeping back up if I looked away for a minute.

Lamarck is a beast, props for getting it done. Just imagine all those shredded muscle fibers that’ll come back stronger! Are you on the last week of SSB II?

GRATS, that’s got to feel good! :tada: What are you doing next?

Some view! Unreal!

Thank you for the props. Yes I am just about done with SSBMV II I’ve got to say it was tough, and kept getting tougher as the weeks went on. Surprisingly my legs are not sore this morning. I’m trying to figure out what workout plan to do next.

Another outdoor no structure ride for me. I’ve more or less kicked structure to the kerb until after my holidays in a few weeks then back into it with a vengeance for a 9-10 month plan.

Some nice power breakthroughs in the 60s range which prompted intervals.icu to tell me I had hit a new ftp of 252 (which seems very unlikely…).

I don’t think it’s bad. I would naturally do the same and I feel like more trainer riding seems to encourage that behaviour.

Zwift Academy 2019 Workout #2: Race Practice

Last ten minutes I found tough… had some issues with my ant+ & smart trainer… don’t normally have that second antenna controlling smart trainer and had drop outs due to its remote positioning which made it revert to blue tooth which wasn’t the best for response. Will have to dig out the other usb extension lead.

Going to have to do this again anyway as it doesn’t count towards graduation…didn’t do it as a group ride :frowning: Live and learn…Doh!

Will take tomorrow off for recovery, Academy 2-2.5kg Group chill ride on Saturday morning…Am enjoying the change of pace.
