What workout did you do today? (2018/2019)

Red Lake +3

enjoyed it, was hard by the last set but that would have been insurmountable a few weeks ago.

Bashful +2 done. That was tough. Whether it was a case of warming up or not, I found the last set the easiest to maintain the required power.

Ramp test. +4W

Long night with the baby after Bashful +1 yesterday. This was all I could muster for my “plus” ride today. Fang Mountain tomorrow.

Should have been 5x15min at 95%…
Removed reco periods and did 75min at 95% ftp.
75min pb of 354w!

+1

My cadence graph at the end of a ramp test is a portrait of suffering. I leak out from 105 to 95 semi-gradually . . . but once I’m around 90, it is a free fall. Made it from 90 to 65 in about 35 seconds during my last ramp test. Still gives me the chills to look at it. I was DEEP in the well.

Mills +1

I have never . . . EVER . . . nailed the first Vo2 workout after a ramp test elevating my FTP.

And today was no different. If it wasn’t for that one, single 15 second backpedal during the second to last interval, I would have done it. I rebounded to nail the last interval. So damn close. Rest day tomorrow.

The FAIL at the end of a proper effort for a RAMP test is so sudden and brutal! Total system FAILURE! :dizzy_face:One minute you are going along, albeit in the hurt locker, and then BOOM you hit an impenetrable brick wall. One must experience this to truly understand

Fang Mountain +1 tonight. I bumped it up 1-2% the final two intervals and it still wasn’t that challenging until the final over of each. Decided to bump my ftp up to 210, just because it’s a round number and I can do it anyway  but to fathom doing this workout at an ftp higher than that would turn into a failure no doubt.

Question though…two-ish weeks ago I held 235 watts for over 20 minutes on a climb which gave me an all-time highest ftp ever at a little over 220. Outdoors. Am I completely chimping out by not even attempting this indoors? I’ve never failed a workout based upon the ftp provided through a ramp test and my own changes based on workouts such as Lamarck and the like. Should I be trying to hit this 220 ftp on the trainer and deal with some failed workouts? 10 watts may not seem like that much for some, but that’s 5% for me and just changing Fang Mountain by 2% was very noticeable.

Surprised myself and managed to get through Bashful +2 tonight. After Baird +2 left my legs blasted for a good chunk of last week I was really hesitant to do this even harder workout and went back and forth debating with myself to do a lesser version, different workout, knock back the intensity, etc. but I finally HTFU and went for it - - happy to have made it through on and above target for all :+1:.

NIce job . . . geez. I downsized this workout last time it popped up on my calendar. Now I feel weak.

Way to go – that thing is a monster.

Sort of like how the only good thing about -40° temperature is that it makes -20° feel warm, the good thing about 125% intervals is that it makes the 121% intervals feel easier. :joy: I did adjust which gear I was in this week so I averaged around 94-97RPM vs ~100 last week which was a small change, but I think it helped a bit too.

Just finished Baird +6. Ride felt good. Quite hard, but just short of overwhelming. My knees didn’t feel so great during the endurance section at the end. Haven’t yet sorted the new cleats, still working on dialing them in. Knees are weird, never feels like it’s the same part of my knee from ride to ride that I need to fix.

I can push more outside up a hill than I can manage on a trainer, so I personally wouldn’t adjust my FTP based on that. However I find most over-under workouts very tough, if I was needing to bump those up I’d bump up my FTP. In your place I’d put it up 2-3% then see how the next few workouts go, you can always bump it up again.

It’s not unusual to perform differently indoors and outdoors due to many differences but key is cooling. You may also have different losses and efficiencies and even different power sources depending on your setup.

Part of the Fang Mountain love-in

Not going to lie, I found this incredibly hard. Those six and a half minute rest periods meant I’d recovered and then began to get cold. I just struggled to find an sort of rhythm and by the end it was a real battle.

Think I’ll need to revisit more workouts of this nature.

Monday was a needed but unplanned rest (not recovery but rest) day. Yesterday, I aborted the morning run and slept in and then the TR was to be Galena but struggled mightily so I switched to Petit. And still struggled.

At the end of Petit, I added 5’. I wasn’t working hard but couldn’t pedal as lightly as TR wanted me to. Not sure what that means, if anything.

Feeling better – recovered – this morning and got out for a 5.5mi ‘easy’ trail run with the dog. Selfie, with dog, posted below.

Baxter -2 at 105%. Think I’ll try it at 110 next time.

With some luck by tomorrow I’ll feel well enough to do some threshold/anerobic work.

Broken Finger. Should be called Broken Spirit.

Looks like you made a good fist of it though! :muscle:
