What is the best plan to start training now for a road racing comeback next march

I got back into riding this year at the age of 46 and have been riding indoors and outdoors regularly. Current ftp is 270. I used to race road, mtb and cyclocross from childhood until 2007 and would like to get good enough to start racing again next year. What would be best to focus on with trainer road? Improve ftp? Faster for group rides? Or enter an imaginary date for a race next year (race calender isn’t published yet as it’s too early). Thanks

Hey, and welcome to the forum!

I think if you’re looking to get started now and don’t have plans to race until next year, building a goal-based plan, like increasing FTP, could be a good option.

What type of racing are you planning on doing? That might make a difference in what you choose.

It’s hard to beat increasing endurance or increasing FTP plans for general fitness, though.
