Yep, two times more than me… and it refers to my weight peak this year, before the challenge ![]()
Yes, just enter your data in the next available row toward the bottom. The stuff on the top is just to easily convert to kg if you live somewhere using pounds or stone. If you don’t have data from previous weeks, just enter this week and start now.
Welcome to the team
That’s five weeks of pretty consistent weight loss for me, and now more than 50% of the way to goal weight! Although I actually feel really good at this weight and I am noticeably faster uphill already so may revise goal weight up a bit.
I also stopped tracking calories this week, after doing so religiously for the rest of July, and continued to lose weight so hopefully a sign I have started to build better habits around eating.
And back on green. However, this week it will probably change as “heavy Monday” increases the average ![]()
Minor changes. I don’t think my goal is realistic this year. I am faster uphill than last year but… too much eating during winter. It’s not possible to loose it this time of season, only “maintanance mode” possible now I’m afraid.
Whatever, I’ll try anyway ![]()
Thanks! All entered up, baby steps but changes are seeing the right direction of travel at last.
I went in the wrong direction for the first time this week. A lot of excuses, but mostly just things that took my eye of the ball. Back to the task for this week.
Feeling better this week. I ate more during workouts/rides, ridden a bit less than usual & have been less hungry & sleeping better.
I’m down .3kg since last week which reflects my reduced calorie deficit. At this rate, I’ll reach my goal toward the end of September which is my favorite time of year to ride. Hope to keep piling up the PR’s on the trails I ride the most!
Went out of town, made bade food choices and so gained a little. I kind of figured that would happen. i don’t consider it starting over. I knew it would happen when sitting in a car for 12 hours. Hopefully this week I will get back to where I was last week.
Warning, long post ahead. TLDR - former non-fat guy needs to lose weight!
Lately, I’ve had to take a searing inventory of the bad lifestyle habits that I’ve accrued over time. Junk food, alcohol (mostly big IPAs!), and a sedentary lifestyle have really caused me to pack on the pounds over the last several years. My wife and I have mutually decided that we need to clean up our diets and cut out alcohol. I bit the bullet and weighed myself this morning so I’d have a clear starting point for my journey. I checked in at a whopping 95.7 kg - my heaviest ever. I’ve been lurking this thread and decided to add my name to the spreadsheet and make this post for some much needed accountability.
For context, about 10 years ago I used to race (mostly crits and road, some marathon mountain biking events) at around 66 kgs. Law school, work, stress, and my mental health slowly eroded my interest in the bike and I only rode sporadically for several years from about 2014 through 2018. Over that time, I never regained the spark for riding and never managed to string together any meaningfully consistent training. When I’d ride, I could really only think about how far I’d fallen from race shape and how rides that I used to love were now a death march. My constant comparison to my former, fitter self didn’t allow me to appreciate any of the rides I mustered during this period.
I got a smart trainer and joined TR in Summer 2018 in the hope that I could squeeze in more riding before or after work to get back some semblance of fitness. I struggled with consistency, but the TR workouts got me fit enough to enjoy riding again. I could do the climbing-heavy rides I used to enjoy (at a much slower pace), and ride with friends without feeling like a complete out-of-shape slob. An out-of-state move and a new job kept me off the bike for big chunks of early 2019, but I’ve been riding fairly consistently at a low volume from Summer 2019 until now.
With a bit of fitness, some stability in my life and my wife’s newfound interest in cycling (she’s new to racing and already landed on the podium!) I’m now to the point where I’ve regained a bit of my old interest in cycling and want to get back into fighting shape for the 2021 season - that’s where this thread comes in. I intend to toe the line at several races next year, and don’t want to embarrass myself. I did a few practice crits and early season crits this year, but was nowhere near where I wanted to be from a fitness standpoint and could only muster pack finishes with no hope of animating a race.
I have no chance to recapture my glory days at this point, but at 5’10" I’d like to return to a healthy weight that may allow me to compete on flatter courses and allow me to have “fun” on huge days (I’m signed up for BWR, and would like not to die). I’ve chosen 82 kg as a goal - pretty much halfway between where I was 10 years ago and where I am now. It’s ambitious, but I’m committed to the journey and long-term, consistent process. I’ll try to post weekly to keep myself on track and offer support to others when I can.
Thanks for the space to have some accountability. Glad to be part of the journey.
I am noticing a lot of people haven’t checked in in a while. You all should come back, what do you have to lose but some kg!
I’ll be quiet this week - big life event (a good one) over the weekend and not much sleep since. I will post a weight later in the week though.
@JJJared welcome to the thread!
I’ve had a slight weight gain this week. In my defence I’ve been home with a cold for four days doing nothing. Also started taking Creatine which makes you retain some water. Guess I can’t complain. I’m up 0.3kg
I’ve been distant for a few weeks. Struggling big time with eating issues. Covid and working from home since March certainly hasn’t helped so i’ve literally been either binging or starving myself. Trying like hell to figure my crap out and just be healthy!! I 100% have a sugar addiction which leads me to binge.
I train alot, so have mostly stayed in the category of “stagnant” but dang i’m messed up in the head right now. Appreciate all the helpful community in this thread, I finally went and updated mine. Just trying to take it day by day.
Hello all cyclists! Joining in on this project - hoping to keep up motivation to reach match weight next season. (i LOVE chocolate)
All time maximum weight is 145 kg , yesterday i weighed in at 90.4 kg and my race weight goal is 79.9 kg ![]()
5-6 years ago i used MyFitnessPal and in a year i went down from 88 kg and reached adult life (weight) low with 73 kg. Experienced great racing results and (almost) flew up all mountains (FTP around 4.2 w/kg).
This time i want to stabilize around 80 kg , as i feel that is a more healthy option.
Have a great day everyone - train - eat - sleep and be happy ![]()
Hey mate, sorry to hear you are struggling with eating issues. As I said when I started the thread, someone very close to me had a very serious eating disorder so i can somewhat understand or empathise, though my experience with the person in my life.
of course I am not qualified to give any advice but i would say, be easy on yourself, your head is the place where you spend the most time, its important to make it a nice place to be. Nothing wrong with craving sugary foods, it is often to do with simply needing more carbs, unfortunately this whole sugar and carb phobic thing is really rampant now in society and just doesnt help if you are trying to be a fast cyclist. Give your body what it wants but you can choose weather that is a bag of apples or a packet of donuts.
Getting professional help was extremely helpful to the person that was in my life and may be what you need, i dont know.
I’ve 100% fallen off the wagon this last month and my weight is starting to creep up again week on week.
Time to stop being a dick and get my shit in order again. Need to ditch the ‘See Food’ and eat it diet I’m currently on. Time reinstall MFP I think.
That is impressive stuff, well done.
Echoing Thomas_Slater, go easy on yourself. Getting faster on the bike is an admirable goal, as is losing weight to do it. There is no yellow jersey at stake though. This is just a little fun along the way.
Had a green week. Still making progress but feels painfully slow. Still going hard on the bike and having fun riding outdoors which helps.
Successful Athletes podcast yesterday was very relevant and an inspirational story. Kind of got me fired back up to push harder on the weight loss. Trying to ask myself if what I’m eating (and how much of it) will make me faster on the bike.
I’m in the red this week. More bad days than good recently. One of the things I notice most about the days where I struggle is not drinking enough water.
Getting back into a rhythm is tough but will be worth it.
