Went to the v2, was only able to get about $150 USD for the v1 on Facebook marketplace. Taking it out this weekend… looks good in my basement
That’s about what I’m expecting to get for mine as well. Waiting until I do a ride or two with the V2 before listing though in case I run into the stuff Ray did (although I don’t suspect I will).
First spin with the V2 today. Generally happy with it, I like the screen changes and find it easier to read. I have power linked to the zone colour and found that useful. Only one glitch where it lost the route I was following a couple of times in a particular area, as in, the route just disappeared. I was running my V1 at the same time and it had no issue. Pressing pause and resume seemed to fix the problem. It was a gravel ride, remote area and not heavily wooded so no obvious reason.
The buttons are more responsive but this caused me to skip past the page I wanted a couple of times but I guess I’m accustomed to the heavy hand needed with the V1.
My only other observation is that it takes a second or two longer to boot up that the V1. Not a problem but I thought it might be faster.
I’m kinda shocked used bolt’s are going for $150+ on ebay. Pretty much a no-brainer for me, just ordered v2. If anyone wants to save me the trouble of ebay, I’ll let it go for a bit less than that to someone on the forum
is the climb page actually finally useful? on V1 it is not: it just shows the climb ahead as graph, but no idea how long the climb will be, what scale the lines and graph stand for, when zooming it is even more confusing, and: the zoom levels are a bit harsh, very much zoomed out you see all the climbs for the planned tour, zooming in esepecially the last 2-3 steps are too detailed.
and absolutely no indicator about the distance.
that I find the most frustrating on the Bolt and quite a reason to change the device.
or did anybody figure out how to use and understand the climb page on V1 properly?
First ride for me today with the V2. Routing was great, screen was fantastic. Overall, the performance was as I’d expect. However, there was another update this morning and i skipped it, which meant I went without power from my Vector 3 pedals the whole ride. I was able to get them to pair, but was unable to get the power to report. I’ve updated the firmware now that I’m home and will test again tomorrow.
EDIT: Update on the power issue I was having with the Vector 3s. I kept connecting it to a unit called Vector 3 but it kept saying the ANT+ ID was unknown, despite showing one when it connected. So I connected my phone to the pedals and found that the ID the Bolt V2 was showing wasn’t the same. I had the unit forget the Vector 3 unit and tried to pair again, this time clicking the More button when presented with the Vector 3 option. This showed another unit called Power, which shared the ANT+ ID of my pedals. Connected to that, and all is well. Even shows batter for each pedal and allows me to adjust crank length on the headunit as well as calibrate.
interestingly enough my V1 has today first time ever (!) not recorded almost 20% of my ride. It seemed to work while riding: HR ok, navigation ok, climb grade ok… when I synced to the Element companion a huge part of the ride was missing. Reason? dont know.
My wife’s Roam bricked on our ride today. It was fine for the first 5 miles or so, and then totally bricked. After being off about 15 minutes, we could restart it, but it died in 5 minutes or so. Fully charged last night. She also updated firmware last night. It had been fine with no issues for a few years prior.
Can you get pedalling dynamics from Vectors on the Wahoo (e.g. balance, platform centre offset)?
Was setting up my Bolt v2 and then suddenly it locked up.
Tried all the troubleshooting steps and nada. The curious thing is that I can mount it using the Android File Transfer app for MacOS. Pulled the crash log and will send it to Wahoo after they respond to my initial ticket regarding the lock up.
Been an ELEMNT user since the start and this is a little disappointing but I just see it as maybe an early adopter issue and will see what Wahoo has to say.
I guess I took Kermit to heart as a kid and I always look on the bright side of life!
I own the original Elemnt and the one feature I have been waiting for is scrollable maps instead of the basic zoom in/out. It looks like the Bolt v2 can scroll. Can someone please confirm that that?
Wahoo has silently been using Android OS from the beginning AFAIK.
I know, its oddly one of things that I’ve always smiled about.
It’s also how I was thanks to @GPLama for the icon pack that I now have 1 up mushrooms for my Varia on my original ELEMNT.
I’m a huge Wahoo fan, so I’m sure they will just RMA and send me a new one.
Might be a software issue that can be resolved without an RMA.
No, but if you dual record the data into Garmin Connect you can.
Now, what you actually USE that data for remains a mystery.
Sold my V1 for 170USD… couldnt believe it myself…
I love the V1 bolt but also very interested on this point!
It’s a very tempting (and somewhat unnecessary upgrade) seeing what people are getting for their used V1s! Also kind of hard to part with a device that has been absolutely flawless for over 20k miles of riding…
Where is that icon pack you mentioned for the Varia display on the Bolt?
i felt the same (at first), but:
- seing the prices for a 2y+ used device
- riding in “unknown” territory since I moved
- missing a remote control option for my Varia Radar on the Bolt
- upgrading to Garmin 530 for just 100$
made me change my standpoint. I am curious to try it out.
The reason why you need Android File Transfer on a Mac is because the Mac does not natively support USB MTP protocol unlike Windows or Linux via libmtp. It’s the same for Garmin. GarminOS is not Android either. So you need to use that software on a Mac for embedded devices that require MTP. It has nothing to do with the RTOS running on the Wahoo ELEMNT.
