Being released May 6.
TrackrâŚnice.
The War on Vowels continues!!!
I donât know what is more annoying. Releasing the Ace when it is half baked. Or announcing new Elemnt and Blts without full specs. Seems rlly stpd ethr way.
Nice to see the huge bezels gone from the Roam
Quite underwhelmed by the size of the radar. That thing is massive.
The size seems comparable to the Varia. The mounting mechanism seems a little bigger (where it sticks further away from the saddle), but otherwise, it doesnât read as overly large for me.
This is kind of cool.
- Brake Light. It also works as a conventional brake light, thanks to a built-in accelerometer, increasing taillight brightness when you quickly slow down.
Yeah, but with a claimed battery life of 20 hours. I hope thatâs a realistic number and not marketing bs. Battery life is one of the few criticisms I have of the Varia.
Knowing Wahoo it can go either way.
I hope it has mounting options aside from the strap. One thing that nice about the varia.
when is the media embargo being lifted for reviews? @dcrainmaker @GPLama? A cycling product launch without a DC Review is a failed launch imho. Or did they just leak the units themselves this time around and the reviews will come in may? Iâm so confused - there isnât much info on their website either⌠?!
Funny you say this because the first thing I did after the email came out was jump over to youtube and look for the DCR video.
I do have all three (BOLT/ROAM/Radar), and have been putting in all the miles over the last little bit.
But, Wahoo asked that I not publish anything with my own photos/videos until Thursday. I can type/write whatever I want now, as long as I use stock imagery. Using stock imagery/photos isnât my jam, so given that, Iâll wait till Thursday for a first look.
As will be noted then though, the software is very much still beta, with Wahoo saying a final production software version will come on April 14th. Thus, Iâll start digging into all the important pieces then (e.g. battery life, stability, etcâŚ). Whereas for the first look, Iâll cover the display and hardware elements, as well as the âspecâ stuff.
Ultimately, these are mini-ACE computers (without the wind sensors). They run the same exact OS as ACE, minus some tweaks for the smaller non-touchscreen BOLT.
RIP the customisable Quick Look LED indicators from both models
What do you us them for today? I have them on my Roam V2 and they blink all the time - never actually set them up for anything though.
I like them for as extra warning for the radar. When riding in the rain, the sound on my bolt goes to nil, so the leds help. Other than that, i dont care about them
- Target power (or HR) during workouts
- Varia radar alerts
- (When navigating) to show upcoming turn cues
Also as an ahead/behind indicator for Strava live segments.
Itâs a shame to see the LEDs go, they were never a showstopper feature, but are handy, especially when youâre on the rivet.
That does not fill me with confidence, nor does the fact that these are still âvery much betaâ. Youâd think they would have learned after the ACE fiasco.
The Ace is still not in âafterâ territory.
