TrainingPeaks Virtual - [formerly, "Should TrainerRoad link up with IndieVelo"]

Can you tell me how? Obviously, I couldn’t!

Sorry! Pull up the in-game menu in the bottom center of the screen (not the main menu, bottom left). In the middle row of icons you’ll see an icon with two heads. That lets you join either another rider you follow or one of the pacers. It won’t show you the power for each pacer so you’ll need to figure that out before you start. When you want to switch pacers, just pull up the menu again and pick a different one.

Nice! Thanks so much! Very helpful.

That’s what I saw last night which was pretty frustrating. If they could just add the zone or wattage next to the pacer, that would be amazing.

Agree, although the colors roughly correspond to power zones so I know yellow/citrine is tempo/sweet spot and blue/sapphire is endurance. Once you figure them out it’s pretty easy to remember.

I noticed today that there’s a rainbow banner across the top that shows which zone you’re in while riding. While not perfect…assuming those colors correspond with the Pacer names, that could be helpful in choosing.

Just saw that TrainingPeaks now allows you to import external workouts in bulk to your library for use in TPVirtual. Currently only in .zwo format but if you have a bunch of custom workouts in your Zwift library you can bring them all over at once (or create them in intervals.icu and bring them over).

With TP now providing .zwo file import for planned workouts, this Chrome extension might be useful for someone:

ie. for simple export of TR workouts for upload to TP/TPV (instead of Zwift). That’s my use case, anyway!

I just realized that all the bikes in TPv have rim brakes.

Not that it matters, just an odd decision to spend all that time rendering out-dated bikes.

I’ve used TPv a few times now. I like having my workouts appear automatically, but since they are provided to me from my coach in TP, they also automatically appear in Zwift, so it is a push.

Overall, it is kind of a “meh” for me right now. For shorter stuff, it is fine but when I want / need to do longer stuff, I want a big group ro ride with (like BMTR or DIRT). Those big groups have yet to materialize on TPv yet.

Just about to start exactly that: Sunday Medio Fondo - TrainingPeaks Virtual Hub

I would say it’s more like ‘picking whatever is in the public database in Unity tagged ‘bike’ and calling it good enough for now’, much like most of the graphics. Considering until less than 2 months ago the whole project was run by one person, I’m happy enough with that - but very interested to see what comes next!

Not sure if Zwift has the same, but I really like the 1st person view.

I’ll take a look at it next week.

Yes, Zwift does have a first person view.

The FPV in TPV (couldn’t resist!) also optionally shows the handlebars, and is adjustable in settings, which is pretty cool!

Exactly. A lot of TR workouts are built with sort of open ending like 15 min at 50% and that allows you to make it Z2 for as long as you need, extending CD by, say, 3x10 min. 25% is just not enough, 50% would be ok though, but for the fuck sake - why?
