Training Plan with 3 hard Intervall + group ride

Hi training experts,

I have about 20 years of training history. My schedule is 3x hard intervalls, 2x easy, 1x (dynamic) long ride.

My question is:

I want to add a 2-3h group ride on Tuesday: can I still keep the long one on Saturday or Sunday and somehow keep the 3x Intervalls?

Given that I really want to do the long ride on the weekend AND the group ride on Tuesday - should I switch to 2x intervals? What would be best?

Bonus question: can I set the group ride and solo ride as “fixed” and ask the software to suggest the remaining days?

Thanks !

Additional: if more data is needed I will be happy to share screens.

You know the answer… replace an interval day for the group ride. Can’t be full gas every day!

No.

3 hard days + a long ride is already a lot of intensity, adding a group ride (unless this is a truly z2/recovery pace group ride) is just asking to do too much.

Swap out one of your intensity days for the group ride day.

Thank you very much for your opinions and suggestions! Great community

Example: this was last weeks group ride. Shorter than normal (time constraints) but a little bit harder (normally my NP should even be bellow 200W)

Too hard to add 3x Intervalls?

Probably not, power and if looks pretty reasonable imo.

I would see if you start getting red/yellow days as a result and pay close attention to how you feel afterwards if you add these in regularly but it looks easy enough I wouldn’t be worried.

I am used to seeing group rides be far more spirited.

Any ideas how to schedule them?

Mo: Hard?

Tu: Group ride (easy)

We: Hard?

Th: Easy?

Fr: Hard?

Sa: Long?

So: off?

That looks pretty good.

I would see how you do with this load, especially because you have 3 Interval structured training

If it’s too much I would consider either dropping an interval day or making it a masters plan so one of you interval days gets switched to an endurance workouts and over time you can add the 3 interval day.

Having a long group ride adds a lot of training stress, even if it’s unstructured. So I’d just listen to your body and adjust as needed. Adding volume over time instead of the other way around.

I was in a very similar situation. We have a local Tuesday and Thursday group ride that is basically a full chop ride or race. I have adjusted my intensity days to match and depending on my schedule I’ll do whichever works best. The group ride isn’t structured, but the TSS usually matches, and the race prep and group dynamic training is well worth it to me. Additionally, I do a long group ride on Saturday that is usually more in line with the structure of my long endurance training days.
