I wish training plans could consider Group rides

I’ve been living TrainerRoad adaptive training plans. I do wish they had more flexibility when setting the initial plan.

Ideally it would be great to be able to choose number of days of group rides a week a duration. Even if it was limited to 1 or 2 days a week, in all honesty I would be fine if TR would recommend a maximum number of group rides.

I know o can convert my trainings to group rides and I get some guidance. The reality is that most times I end up exceeding the TSS due to time or effort or both

It would be great to stop the guessing game and actually TR accounted for it. For example, if I knew I did one 50m group ride a week TR could recommend the intensity for the group ride and adjust the intensity of the remaining number of days.

or what ever creative solution that the smart TR team could come up with.

the problem statement is

i love riding and i love to wave my weekly group ride. i want guidance and stop the guessing game of setting up my plan. i usually know the number of miles ill be riding and i have some control over thr intensity by choosing to pull the group or hang in the group

Hey there,

We do have a feature that allows you to keep track of Group Rides!

If you happen to go a little too hard during the ride (we all do from time to time  ), then don’t worry – Red Light Green Light will account for that and keep you on track by adjusting your future workouts.

As for a “maximum” number of group rides, we’d recommend keeping your high-intensity days limited to 3 per week, so that would probably equal 3 group rides per week (assuming they are hard group rides). We’re obviously big fans of structured training, though, so we’d suggest doing 1-2 group rides per week while maintaining 1-2 structured workouts alongside that. Aim for that target of 3 hard rides per week while keeping the rest of your riding easy in Zones 1 and 2. Group rides are fun and they can be good training, but keeping some structure in your plan is key to getting faster in the long run. :flexed_biceps:

Hope that helps – feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

I tried the Solo Rides feature, changing a scheduled workout to a Solo Ride, doing the ride, then associating it with the workout, and it didn’t do anything wrt adaptations or anything. It didn’t advance progression levels as the scheduled workout would have, despite being similar in targeted zones and having higher TSS and IF. So, IDK what the point is. I got a Red or Yellow day, but I get that anyway with using the Solo Ride feature.
