I’m doing a training plan on TR for the offseason. So far so good. However, I’m noticing some weird “adaptation” issues. For example, if I can ride outside on Saturday mornings I do. Generally my Sat ride on TR is Z2 per the plan. I don’t always stick to Z2 especially outside where I can actually have some fun, but for example, if I go have a sat ride and my TSS exceeds the TR plan by 40, 50 or 60 TSS (sometimes more), then my adaptation for Monday is a MUCH harder workout. When what I need is the original workout or perhaps, like after last saturday…more recovery!
Another example, this is a recovery week. Yesterday TR had a 1.5hr ride scheduled, however, I will be unable to ride this weekend at all due to family obligations that have us slammed (rare but it happens). So yesterday I rode 3hrs instead of the scheduled 1.5. The last 1.5 hours were easy, low Z2 basically.
After the ride all my adaptations for the remainder of the recovery week were harder rides, significantly harder rides for a recovery week which seems odd. So I accepted the adaptation today and just ignored the one for Saturday since I won’t do that ride at all.
I’ve done my sometimes added some difficultly to the saturday rides indoor but then that changes all my adaptations to be much harder in the week ahead as mentioned above. Just seems weird AF>
I took a look at your training plan and the recommended adjustments and nothing is looking off.
TrainerRoad now looks beyond just Workout Levels, factoring in your fitness, recent training, and overall trends to pick the right workout for you that day.
When a workout looks different from what you might expect based on past recommendations, it’s reflecting a broader view of your current fitness and capabilities. This supports consistent, high-quality training, and that’s exactly what helps you get faster.

I see that on the second week of your training plan you completed your Sat ride, got a Yellow Day Sunday and was on the clear to train on Monday. The plan called for a SS 4.8 that you completed and marked as Very Hard. I see the plan gave you a Yellow Day Tuesday and called for an easier Threshold on Wednesday. That said, you’re always welcome to not accept the adaptation and keep the prior workout if you think you need it as you know your body best

While these were adapted to higher levels they are still all within the recoverable ranges given your fitness/Progression Levels.
