Hi i just started using trainer road, and had my first ramp test and build my own plan for a grand fondo race which i plan to finish in 8 hr or less, had done 2 workouts in base phase and it just feels easy and moderate, and i find the training load low, used garmin watch for 1 -2 years to track my actue load, im finding the first 2 exercises easy and moderate is that normal? Im having only 3 1hr scheduled traing for every week. Do i need to adjust my plan?
Did you provide your ride history to TR? If TR thinks your new to cycling, it will start up conservatively.
But even with ride history, it will rather start slow then cook you in the first 2 weeks
Hey @richarddy25, welcome to the forum!
@nvalphen is on to something here. We base a lot of your prescribed training on your recent training history. It looks like you had a decent little training spike in May, but otherwise, your training load has been relatively low since November of last year.
Based on all of the data we have from many, many different riders, we know that it’s not sustainable to ramp training stress too quickly, which is why we recommended the plan that you’re currently on. You can, of course, make changes if you’d like, but we recommend starting where you’re at and slowly ramping up as you progress.
You do have the option to re-check our training volume recommendations at any point by simply clicking on the title of your plan when viewing your calendar, as shown below.
I know you might feel some pressure to get some hard training in before your upcoming event, but between now and then, you likely won’t benefit a ton from piling on a bunch of new stress. I’d instead focus on knocking out what’s on your plan with good quality and consistency.
I noticed this as well when I first started. TR starts conservatively and gets better over time. I would trust the system and complete the workouts now. Enjoy it while they’re still easy . You will also notice more red and yellow days early on which I’m guessing is also this conservative approach. At least if you ride outside at all or do anything more than the prescribed training. That has mostly gone away for me over time as well. Still get yellow days, but only after a pretty intense or long day.
Thank you! I ddnt adjust the volume but i did change how hard i want go at the said event, changed it to race pace, my other questuon probably is, the event is a grand fondo 102 miles, last yr i finished it at 7hr and 20 according to strava and this time i want to finish it quicker like sub 7, is ot correct that ive just logged for the event as it is a 8 hr duratiom event? Is logging it at race pace worth it for me? Im not really racing but based on my tss last yr it recorded it as 545 i think thanks! Thank you for the info and time to change my training habits
Whether you log the event as 7 or 8 hours doesn’t matter too much. They are still very much the same type of event. The same goes for the subtleties between “very hard,” “race pace,” etc.
What matters most is the discipline of the event and the priority it takes on your schedule.
Thank you so much! Trying to learn the system
No problem! Just shout if I can help out with anything else down the road.
We’re happy to have you!
